My phone service and phone are provided by my firm, and my contract is up next year. I'm going to compare the I-phone with the new Palm G-3 phone. I can't make the switch now because Sprint is my service provider.

From how it was explained to me, the 3G frequency that the iphone/att runs on is different than the others, therefore an iphone on another service won't have 3g... iirc, and i'm propbably wrong, but thats what i was told...

Not 3G fast? Sprint's EVDO network is a 3G network... I use my HTC Touch Diamond on the Sprint EVDO Network and it's just as fast, if not faster than AT&T's 3G network. Did a side by side comparison with an iPhone 3G and my Touch Diamond for web browsing and tethering. Speeds on EVDO were quicker for both applications.

I'm in the same boat as you though, I pay around $70 a month for unlimited everything, and I'm not about to pay $120+ for something that isn't even as good. I still have no cap on my data tethering with Sprint, and if I switch to AT&T and tether, it's like a 5gb cap. The iPhone 3GS is real slick I must say. Just played with one and I like it. Hope everyone enjoys theirs!
It seems most of the world hates Sprint but I have had fantastic luck with coverage and have never had a customer service issue - though I'm not one of these idiots who calls 5x a month trying to be cute and save $.50 by reconfiguring for one discount or another.

In most areas I've traveled, using Opera on my HTC Touch renders a page faster than my iPod Touch does over wireless using Safari. Wife and I have a 2-line fam plan but the 3rd line I have the HTC on is a SERO or employee referral plan that is 500 minutes, unlimited data, roaming, N&W, etc. for $30/month! How ridiculous is that!?!?

My work offers pretty healthy discounts for AT&T so the cost for 2 iPhone lines, data, txt, etc. works out to be about $60-65/month per line after all discounts are applied. If it works, the apps make it worth the difference. WM apps are all over the place in terms of quality and price. Yet another major miss for our good friends at Microsoft!

I have the 3g iPhone already. Isn't there a firmware upgrade that can be done now for more features and all? If so anyone upgrade theirs yet?

Well the only other carrier you can run an iPhone on is T-Mobile since they are the only other Major GSM carrier in the US. T-Mobile hasn't set up their 3G network across the board either, only a few cities along the US have 3G with T-Mobile. So technically you are right with ATT being the only ones you can run an iPhone on that is 3G, but Sprint and Verizon are both 3G. Sprint is actually going to be on 4G networks real soon...
