New law
Yesterday before the start of a Christmas parade my club www.godspeedcc.com (imports) was participating in the Mustang club started up their engines.
There was a big group of county deputies standing around; so just to flex up, they gave everyone in the mustang club tickets for having "non-stock exhaust"!!!!!! I asked one of the sheriffs why they gave them tickets.
His reply was because of a new FL law;
he can ticket any car having an exhaust that differs in anyway from the OEM system regardless if it does or does not violate the previous law regarding the maximum db levels.2004 FL Statutes (just passed)
Section 5 subsection a
"No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured."
The way the Statute is written it does not say anything about having a different exhaust is grounds for a ticket just cant be louder than stock.
I hope this does not set prescience for other states to start going this far with the laws.
Because the State passed this as a statue instead of putting it in expressly as a law I think the state is not required to publicly notify people living in the state
I don't think you got the full story... Florida statues are numbered as follows XXX.XX(a).
Regardless unless they had a db meter AND a the db reading from a stock car the ticket will get tossed out of court in 2 seconds.

So all those harley fugs can get the same tickets, RIGHT!!!. I want a DB meter presented to me everytime I get pulled over for this.
"Officer you pulled me over going 20 mph in a 35 to give me a ticket for noise, I was at 2500 rpm when you pulled me over and I would be happy to recreate the scenario to give you a chance to accurately record my DB levels for the presiding court official to have as evidence. Do you have a recently calibrated DB meter and an impartial third party printed report stating the standard DB levels of an MY01 Honda S2000 to compare my scores against. You dont have a recently calibrated DB meter in your cruiser? Oh I misheard you, so you do not have a DB meter at all. How can we make an accurate test of how loud my exhaust actually is? Oh no sir I am not being a D*ckhead I am simply asking a series of simple questions to determine how liable I am in this street citation. Thank you for the ticket officer, can we do lunch after court"
So what about Cobras, Boss, Saleens are they banned in FL now? they can no longer sell to Florida dealers becuase they have modified exhausts SVT's are louder than base models who's to tell the cops that. how are they going to determine base DB levels of stock exhausts.
