Can anyone recommend someone to install gears in the Orlando/Central FL area? Tampa/St. Pete would also work for me even though it would be a long drive for me.
I hear that Fourniers Automotive in Orlando does good work.

Paint shops in Orlando:
If you want custom work (body kits, aftermarket color) ask for Dave and tell him I sent you. This is where I get my body work done for my s2k. Another member on here also got their car done here:
Team Redline Motorsports, Inc.
4636 Old Winter Garden Road
Orlando, FL 32811-1738
Phone: (407) 522-4300
Fax: (407) 293-7617

If you want OEM stuff painted not custom work go here. I have had 6 of my own cars painted here.. and have had 5 of my friends take their cars here. They are pretty cheap and they do a great job with paint.. they just don't do anything unless it is oem. Ask for Ahmad and tell him RJ with the white s2k sent you:
Marshall Auto Painting & Collision
7052 Old Cheney Hwy
Orlando, FL 32807

Sorry, bz, but I have to strongly disagree with your recommendation on Team Redline Motorsports... I know you're happy with them, but they screwed my car up so badly, it's going to need a repaint as soon as I can afford the time. I'll post some pictures when I can.

I was told it was a 3 week project... which took 10 weeks to complete, and only at my threat of a lawsuit at the end of the 9th week! This from a company that claimed I would be a show car for them at the car shows. It was all a pack of lies from the very beginning... always some excuse as to why things weren't getting done on time.

Anywhere there was seam sealer the paint has bubbled away and is peeling off. In my lawsuit against them this past December they tried to claim it was my choice of wax that caused the issue (Dave told the judge it was "some high-priced specialty wax that he insisted on"... it was Zaino, but I never got to put it on). He also failed to mention to the judge they were trying to remove crappy dried carnauba wax from the pits created by sanded down bubbled and orange-peeled paint when I showed up to picjk the car up (of which I included pictures of in my lawsuit), so obviously THEY put wax on a mere day after the car was painted... any paint shop will tell you NOT to do that!

In the engine bay, you can stand 5 feet from the car and see the original silver showing through... even though Dave promised me from the beginning they could paint it without removing the engine and you would never know any difference (he even showed me HIS vehicle engine bay, which did look factory). To top it off, they painted right over any dirt that was in the engine bay... they never even cleaned it (yes, I have pictures of that, too). There's paint all over my valve cover and they just painted right over all piping that was in the way. Of course, in court Dave claimed he told me it would never look good without pulling the engine. He'll tell you anything to get the job. Until I bitched about it, they were going to leave a section of my A-pillar alone that had the original color showing through... Dave's response was essentially "No one is going to notice." Hell, I noticed it standing several feet away on my first look-over, you think a judge at a show isn't going to notice that with close inspection?!

They dented my Invidia exhaust tip and I had to take the exhaust home in a truck as they didn't install it before I picked it up. they claimed they needed to bend the piping to get it to fit and they refused to do that work (again, they claimed they would take care of it all in the beginning). Of course, for $75 I took it to a local speed shop and they bolted it right up with me standing there watching.

They provided no support for my front bumper, and it was held on ONLY by the 5 screws along the top of the engine bay and the two in the wheel wells. The carbon fiber lip was held onto the fiberglass bumper by drywall screws (several of which didn't even go all of the way in). I spent an entire weekend fabricating a metal bracket to keep it from vibrating at anything more than 45 miles an hour (which, by the way, I was forced to drive my car from Orlando to Melbourne with no bumper bracket or exhaust).

After week 7, I believe it was (have to check my notes), Dave requested the final payment (obviously WAY before it was finished). When I told him I would like to see the car actually finished before giving him the rest of the money (I had already paid over half), he had a conniption fit with veiled threats of canceling the project right there and having me take the car home in its present state (up on jackstands with unsanded base paint). In all, I made 3 trips out there after being told the car was "done", only to find out it wasn't and I had to leave empty handed... once I was dropped off because I was told "We're finishing buffing it now, it'll be done in an hour", only to be driven home by one of the shop guys because it wasn't (and remember, I lived 60 miles away). After that last visit, it was still two weeks before I picked up my car (again, only at the threat of a lawsuit).

In the courtroom, Dave claimed my bodykit was cheap and took a lot of work to make look good. It was a Veilside, arguably one of the best kitmakers in the industry, so if he was having trouble with that, imagine what issues he'll claim he ran into working on some less-than-stellar kit.

Even now, I'm soooo utterly pissed at what that shop put me through, and I wouldn't recommend them to do anything of value. To be fair, I think some of the guys in the shop have real talent ("Blacks" is the paint guy, and he was doing amazing work). The problem came in with the shop owner, Dave, as he was always loading the shop guys up with way more work than they could handle and still have quality come out... something they'll tell you under their breath when he's not around. Some of the cars in that shop have been there nearly a year, according to some of the shop guys, and Dave always found a way to push off the work. I would trust "Blacks" to do the work, if Dave ever gave him a chance to do it... Dave is too intent on bringing in money, rather than doing a quality job and making customers happy, as evidenced by him pushing off work on my car for over a week because more cash-friendly insurance work came in (he actually admitted this to me in his office!). Insurance work is his bread and butter, he knows this, and other customers be damned!

I have a LOT more to go with this story, but I'm tired of typing. I have pictures to back up everything I say, so please, no one come back and say I'm merely being pissy. My car was/is literally falling apart at the seams, and it's going to take a number of weeks in the shop to get it looking like a fly-by-night shop didn't take a hacksaw to it.

So, no, I cannot recommend that shop. I would highly recommend a few of the people working there, but as long as Dave is runnign the show, he's going to shortchange both you and the work done on your car, contrary to his claim of "A number of high-profile athletes get their cars done at my shop." The proof is in the pudding, and I have plenty of bad pudding pictures!

You know what, bz... I really want to be fair here, so I reread your post. You mentioned bodywork at TRM, and in that regard I have to say THAT part of the job was topnotch. Blacks also did all of the bodywork, and he did an amazing job on that... he was spending the necessary amount of time on it, even though Dave kept pulling him off of it to do other work. The paint WOULD have been amazing had Dave not gotten even more stingy with his time.

So my suggestion, if you insist on having work done at TRM (or anywhere, for that matter), make sure you put in writing exactly what you expect, including time frame and quality of work. I wanted to be trusting, so I never put it all in writing, which made it easy for Dave to weasel out of. Ask for an opinion on how long it would take... add 50% and specify the penalty to the shop if it isn't finished within that time period. Specify the quality of work, as in "factory" or "show" quality listing things such as "no orange peel", and attach pictures of example vehicle paint jobs.

Maybe consider getting the bodywork done at one shop and the paint at another... just because a shop can DO both doesn't necessarily mean they're good at it. Or, another possibility... rent out a booth and see if you can steal Blacks away for a few weekends. It may cost you more (or possibly less since you won't have Dave and his shop stealing some of the profits out of Blacks pockets). Something to consider, and had I known Dave was going to be the weak link in the chain and Blacks has the talent he does, I would have gone down that road.
