Default Oil Drain Threads Broken...

So, I had posted in a thread a few weeks ago about reminding everyone to check their oil. My level was fine, but I hadn't changed it yet, so I bought all of the stuff to change it, torque wrench, filter wrench adapter, oil filter, 5Q Oil, new Crush Washer, etc. I tried to change it, but couldn't get the drain bolt to budge at all... Bought an adapter for my breaker bar to fit the socket..

Which brings me to today.. I get home, have all of the stuff, have time.. Take the bolt out and it sounds a bit weird.. I thought I heard a weird noise when removing it.. Get the oil out, let it drain for a while.. wait some more.. still a few drips.. go have a drink.. looks like it's slowed a lot.. so, put the new washer on, go to put everything back on.. Set the Torque wrench to 29ftlbs, had already played with the new TW some to make sure that it wasn't way off.. Start putting it on and hear a noise again.. Then... Clunk.. The bottom part of the thread falls off.. So, I believe the oil pan is now ruined, as there is no way you could screw the bolt in.. Calling the dealership now, but any advice.. It was previously changed at a Castrol place, or at least it had a sticker on the windshield from Castrol, with the date and mileage of next oil change... I don't believe there was a Crush Washer on it when I took it off, as it wasn't on the bolt, and I've looked around and couldn't find the old one..

So, any advice? Could I have done anything to avoid this?? How much is a new oil pan going to set me back?? Now my car is just sitting in the driveway, so helpless... I telecommute the rest of the week, only go in on Monday's, so I don't need a car until next Monday.. But it's still extremely disheartening..

Thanks...

eric

I Believe its a few hundred, I dont know if you can rethread the pan at a machine shop, but its probably better it just buy a new one. That does suck, man

Oil pan, $180...

but it would be cheaper to get yours rethreaded. Unless you royally screwed it up, they should be able to rethread without a problem.

Maybe I wasn't clear in explaining how it was broken.. Take a look at the pics.. I don't think anything can be done with this sort of thing...

I'll have it towed to Tampa HondaLand tomorrow, as I wouldn't feel comfortable replacing an oil pan.. I'm fine changing oil (or at least I thought so), as I've done it on all of my vehicles for as long as I have owned them.. I've done suspension stuff on previous cars.. but I just don't want to chance this...

I would have said retap but after seeing the pics go for the new pan. Keep the old one I can get it repaired and you can sell it or give it away or keep it

You've got a PM!

And as for the Valve, I'll definitely pick one of those up.. I had one on my Jeep and loved it.. Would just hook up a hose to the nipple, open the valve and the oil flowed into a bottle with no mess.. Thanks for the link though..

Plan on tracking the car? One of these might be in order.

Cool

two of these in a criss cross pattern will get you back on the road with 0 issues:

sorry to hear about the damage I would get the new pan and not risk an oil venting episode and subsequent engine seize. Ben can save the old one for sure for you
