Preowned S2000 Pricing
... was just roaming around the internet and wondered what the value of my MY2001 Red/Black would be.
I went to Autotrader.com and here's what I found -- the highest prices in the world, right here is Sarasota at Sun Honda.
Directly quoting the listing in Autotrader.com:
"2001 Honda S2000 Convertible $33420"
But, folks, this was with 15,560 miles on it. It must have been driven by someone famous.
I know that "Blue Book" and the various other sites cannot be deemed to be accurate, but this was soooo amazing, I had to share it.

Steven,
O.K. Here is the skinny,
That car in Question is there on consignment ( meaning they didn't set the price - the owner did )
I have a feeling it will be there for awhile until the owner decides to lower the price.
Also, I talked to Mark Wilde and he has a 2002 Blk w/ Red interior brand new for $ 31,800.00
which is $1000.00 below MSRP.
I knew there would be an explanation!!!!!
I hope this helps.

Well no Yellow S2000 for me!!!!
The dealership, I felt in my opinion insulted my intelligence with the offer they put in front of me. I know that you loose money on a trade but the price discrepancy between their car and mine was so far out in left field, I can't comprehend how they could even think about presenting me such nonsense!
Well I know where not to go when I buy my next car!!!!

I read your post and immediately called my friend Mark who owns the dealership, the yellow s2000 is owned by an employee of the dealership - a manager actually - and it is on consignment. the car is not in their inventory and has a Florida license plate on the back, not a dealer tag. although the car would be sold by a sales person the dealership won't make any money on the car, and the owner (the employee) decides how much he wants to sell it for, not sun Honda. just wanted to clear that up! in fact there's a red s2000 (same year) that you can buy for substantially less.
the 2002 (black w/red) they have on the lot may be sticker priced at $39,000 but that doesn't mean that's what you're going to pay for it - think about it - if every dealership marked their cars for exactly what they had in them how would they make any money? they're always priced a few thousand over so they have room to work a deal - sure some people pay more than others - that's what negotiating is - also who you know. I know they'll sell the car for $31,800 - but if they priced it for that everyone would want one for that price and s2000's wouldn't have anywhere near the mystique or the resale value that they have. it's a business, plain and simple. Mark is a great guy and if you want to take another look let me know and I will call ahead and have someone waiting for you and he will be aware of this conversation, I can't help you with the yellow one because again, Mark doesn't own it but I can have him locate a yellow one for you and I will make sure you get treated right and I will do the same for any member of this board - All you have to do is ask!!!!
Really, Call me if I can help 407 383-9389 I feel obligated to defend Mark and his dealership because I know him personally and he really is a great guy in a business that has a lot of scumbags. If you go in the dealership armed with information and a contact you will have an entirely different experience. I hope this helps.

Hey Nick:
Thanks for being helpful, I think I'm going to stick with what I have because of the money I have invested in my car. There's nothing wrong with what I have except I've always had my heart set on a yellow sports car. Red is definitely the most popular which is what I have. With the addition of the hardtop the car is all that I can ask for.
As for the consignment thing, SarasotaRed and I looked at it and there wasn't any plate on it and when we test drove it. they put a dealer plate on it. You are correct it was owned by the manager, but the way they presented the car, it sure sounded like the dealership owned it. I don't really care who own's it, I was just shopping around for a car with lower miles and the right color. I was just amazed that they could look me straight in the eye and tell me they wanted $7130 plus my car for the yellow car. their car was in nowhere near as good condition as mine was.
Think about it, I could have there brand new black s2000 on the lot for the same price they're selling the yellow one for.
If I decide that I'm going to get a new car, I will surely give you a call for help in negotiating a price with that dealership.
Thanks for trying to help out. It's nice to know that there guys out there like you that are willing to help.
