Talking Project DIY Track Wheels

Got around to doing my track wheels this weekend. I was mostly just wanting to try something a little different that may look a little funny. I think I got the look I was wanting. This was my first time painting wheels and I think they came out pretty decent. I wasn't concerned about keeping paint off the tires as they will be trashed when I put the new ones on. Onto the pics.

The supplies:

And the process:

And the completed product, I left one unpainted for comparative purposes, I painted it after I took the pics.

And the most important part, the tires, will be mounted on Friday:

i have those tires on the rear of my s2k. they're nice but whenever you replace those try some potenza re070's or re01r's. I wasn't really inpressed with the sidewall stiffness on my mx's.

sorry i just noticed you have 16's. re070s onlyl come in 17's.

good job on the wheels btw, nice attention to detail.

AHAHAHA NICE! Can't wait to see them in action on Sunday!

I'll be sure to take some pics!

Make sure you wear the tires out a little bit before the autox

Heres a link to the Sunday event: FAST Autocross April 6th

I'll have mounted pics this weekend

And I would have picked up a set of potenza re070's if they had them in 16's. Heard good things about mx's and they aren't too expensive so figured I'd give them a try. Just about anything would be more sticky than the tires on my car right now though.

I had been planing on doing this for a while though lol. I like the way you did yours though without having to sand, I think I'll try it that way next time. If I didn't have to worry about paint around the lip chipping when putting on new tires I would paint the rest of the wheel red and have some crazy Superman wheels
