For those of you who are considering buying Rick's AxialFlow Short Shifter, I wanted to let you know that I received the 'fix' in the mail today and it looks good. Unfortunately, I am driving the Vette today so I haven't been able to see if it actually works. However, I'll keep you posted once I install it.
If you're contemplating buying the AxialFlow, I definitely recommend it (even if it does rattle just a little bit). Hopefully this will perfect it!

so hurry up and put it on already. and let us know how it works out.
thinking of getting the short shifter and test it out at the touge runs here in cali.
I made my own short shifter before Richard Paul came out with the one he made It's 30% shorter than stock It gives a little feedback in forth gear but other than that it's quite Let me add that Richard is a cool guy I never met him but, we have corresponded via Email
Maybe I should have marketed mine
Ben, I think you still should market yours! It's a great shifter and it looks different so you've got an entirely new appeal.
Mike and I installed the fix yesterday but I haven't really been able to test all the gears at different RPMs. I got to take it through 4th gear and the only time there's a slight rattle (nothing like before though) is when I rev high and then let off the gas with it still in gear. It's not even audible with my exhaust, but if you've got a quiet car you may possibly be able to notice. Either way, it's 100% better than before.
I was having problems with it sticking down in reverse when I brought it into the other gears, which made 5th hard to find :-) Now with the fix it comes out of reverse smoothly. The throw is a little stiff now but it drives great!

Richard sent me one of his first disks when he was trying different things to fix the rattle problem.
I used it on mine but, not under the mounting plate but above, under my rubber boot that goes around the bottom of my shifter.(see pic above) It worked better there for me.
The higher the RPM the more gear noise is transmitted to the shifter and when you let off the gas and the car is decelerating more noise is transmitted until the engine and transmission speed is evened off .
I liked the stiffer feel of the shifter after the install of Richards disk. It gave the shifter a more solid feel. Next time we are at a meet together I will let you drive the car to feel the difference between the two shifters.
So, I tried to take it into all the gears to test the rattling, and I found that in the installation I somehow messed up the whole reverse lock-out thing. When i try to shift into 5th from 4th, it pushes over into the reverse fragment of the shift box. What do I have to do to get it to lock out of reverse?? I know that the knob is pulled all the way up and it's something underneath that i did wrong... what do I do?

You may have put the shifter in backwards. As funny as that may sound it is possible to do. Did you get install instructions with the shifter?
On mine you have a spring first then a ring after that the shifter then the retaining ring, this is the part you screw down. If you put the disk in, it is suppose to go under the retaining ring that screws down to hold the shifter in place.
Hope this helps
Alright we fixed the shifter, just had some problems with the screws.... I ended up putting the original screws back in but the entire rattle problem is fixed. It's a tight, short throw and it even pops out of reverse the RIGHT way now!
