S2000-only track day at GIR?
Well, ever since last June; when I invited a few of our local S2k owners to one of the Brevard Motorsports track days at Gainesville Raceway, I've been talking about doing an S2000-only track day. Now that my work schedule and school schedule are starting to see a bit more stability, and I'm finding myself with a little reserve cash, I'd like to move forward with this.
I'll give just the basics for now, and see what kind of interest it garners before I dive head in and sink over 2 grand in renting the track.
1. First priority would be given to S2000 owners ON THIS SITE. If we have more than 20 people from this site interested, we can do it lottery style, or just take the first 20 to pay in full. Second priority would be given to people on this site without S2000's, or S2k owners not on this site.
2. Track experience is NOT required. It certainly helps though. As I recall, at the last track day, of the 6 S2000's in attendance I was the only one with real on-course experience. And for those who remember the run times, all 6 of us where running very competitively with the other cars in attendance (Chiung and I tied for 3rd fastest of the day behind a modded FD RX-7 and a KA24-Turbo 240SX with a VERY talented driver).
3. As with all of my track days, food and drinks ARE provided with your entry fee. I make absolutely NO money off these events. Whatever funds I have left over after everyone has paid up go directly into buying pizzas, sodas, and water. In fact, I usually end up an extra $50-100 in the hole from buying so much stuff, but I don't care. As long as people have fun, it's worth it to me.
4. Cost will be around $130 per person. This may be modified slightly, but judging from all fees incurred from the last track day, this should mean I will almost break even here.
5. Helmets ARE provided, however, if you have one, I highly suggest you bring it. It would also be very cool if you let a couple other people use it so we don't have 15 people sharing 2-3 loaner helmets.
6. As we learned from the last time, GIR has started actually enforcing some of their rules. So far, at every event, they have not had any problems with passengers. But we have to accept the fact that if they say no ride-alongs, we simply have to listen. Also, and this is important..As we learned again last time, their rules stipulate that if you lose control of the car and go off course more than 3 times over the course of the day, you will not be allowed to make any more runs. Sorry, but as the owner explained it, that is a matter of them covering their own hides as far as insurance goes.
7. If lodging is needed, we have a repoir with the local LaQuinta Inn, and can get group rates there.
8. The way we run these events is like this: 2 cars on course at a time for 10 minute sessions. You run a warm-up lap, about 7 hard laps, then have a cool-down lap, then pull off course, and let the next group on. You will probably get 4-5 sessions. So if you're bad at math, that's 40-50 minutes of seat time.
9. This will likely take place around December-January. So you have plenty of time to get things sorted out.
That's all I can think of at this very moment. That and I need to start packing up my stuff to head home from work for the night. At the last event, we had 6 members participate(myself, djdorifto, Willie Gee, Chiung, nvrquit4, Don H, and Iceman and one member spectate (dead-bird). Perhaps some of these fine gentlemen can chime in with some feedback, pointers, and so forth.
Like I said, I'll need 20 participants. If we can't get 20, I will be in charge of filling empty spots. This may mean sharing a day with another group of MY choosing (probably Brevard Motorsports, or perhaps the Florida RX-8 Club in a grudge match style event. hah). So before you just add friends to the list that aren't on this site, clear it with me first.
So let's get this puppy started. I'll get a list going. Go ahead and add yourself if you are genuinely interested. Adding your name does NOT bind you in any way to this event. I just want to gauge interest. When it comes time for the concrete details such as exact cost, exact date, and the like...I will begin to PM people on the list and starting a new thread with precise information.

I'd really like to do this - I'll also need a definite date before I can commit.
I'd be even more interested if it was more like a track school with instructors and stuff. Does anything like that ever happen?

Hey Scott, I missed out the last event. Hopefully I can make it to this one. Please put me on the tentative list. I am going out of the country in the end of dec. til the beginning of January. If the schedule allows I will def. be there this time.
BTW, Thanks for doing all these for our community. You are awesome!!!
