SC Install Inquiries
I've been trying to avoid the urge to go FI but the recent Comptech SC groupbuy thread is making that exceedingly difficult. First, please excuse my FI ignorance, any advise/input you can provide is greatly appreciated.
I feel like I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but after reading the installation instructions, trying to do a self install would certainly be putting me over my head at some points. Could you give me a ballpark on how much to expect an installation to cost? Are there any other "hidden costs" that I should examine before jumping on the deal? Do you need to let the car cool down before shutting it down (like a turbo), or can you push it hard, then shut it down right after? Is this going to significantly effect the reliability of the S? The S is my daily driver, is it a very bad idea to supercharge a DD? I'm in Fort Myers, a local installer would be great, but I'd be willing to go to Tampa or Miami to have it done right, if need-be. Any advise toward an installer/tuner would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your help guys. I really appreciate it. Looking forward to meeting up again at some future meets!

well since my SC was installed and reinstalled on my car twice, i'll take a crack at your questions.
i wouldn't do the self install unless there's a friend that is very very very mechanically inclined around a S and has done the SC install plenty of times.
for a reasonable price to pay, i'm taking that it is a brand new kit since you're getting it from a GB, i'd say you may pay some where around $400 to $500 at an experienced shop. the install is pretty much straight forward, there shouldn't be any hidden cost unless the shop found out something else about your car that may get in the way of the installation.
is it going to affect the realiability of the S. well that depends on if you play by the rules. if you leave the SC alone, and not trying to squeeze much more power out of the stock kit, then i'd say it will not affect the reliability of the car. as far as for me concern, i barely noticed the gas mileage difference after the re-installation of the SC.
no, you do not have to sit and let the car cool before shutting it down. you can drive it hard, and then shut it off as you please. the SC is designed to be a plug and play type of FI. unlike turbo, you do not have to let it cool before shutting it down regardless of how you have driven it.
my S is my daily driver too, and i dont think it's a bad idea to SC it at all. but again, i like to FI pretty much every vehicle i have. as you can probably tell from my sig, i've pretty much have FI on everyone of my car.
if you feel more comfortable to drive to a more experienced or more reputable installer, then by all means do it. last thing you want is some half ass mechanic that claims to know how to work on your S just because he's done a few oil change on some old POS cars.
i think that's about it. hope this helps.

I think that is our s2k your referring to, and beast is an understatement
Defintely have a pro do the S/C install. Otherwise your going to have a lot of downtime, especially if that's your daily driver.
Definitely call up Todd @ 2nrwerks
Oh and as for reliability, the standard comptech can be ordered as a factory option from what ive heard. If its done by hondatechs its not even supposed to void your warranty.
But if you stick with the pulley it comes with it should be just as reliable. Reliability is going to start going down as you start adding boost.

It can be added as a dealer option. Some dealers will install it and warranty it at there place but don't expect all the dealers to honor their install. I went through this with Tampa Hondaland and it is purely the dealers call.
There are several S2000s out there with 100k or more with the Comptech on them for many years. The reason it doens't hurt the motor much is that you don't get a lot of boost until you are up in the higher rpms.
isf97j4x4, I guess you are happy with how the car turned out?
Not that you have started the jouney to the darkside of power, let some of us Turbo boys take you for a ride and complete the jouney.

don't do it. don't fall for the bait.once you go for a ride in a turbo car, you'd want to go turbo. because turbo is the king of FI.
i've riden in cody's turbo NSX, and have been wanting to go turbo since.
