Default Sebring Track Day April 7th

Is the track at Sebring any Good? April 7th they are having a track day where you can drive your own car on the track. For $325 I thought it would be a hoot. I heard it was alot smoother than it used to be.

O.K. , I just got off the phone with Panoz (888-282-4872) and they told me it was wide open. This was the April 7th Track Day, I double checked the date. When they told me that I was envisioning lots of track time.

I did my first track day at Sebring with Chin Motorsports in May 2000 and it was a BLAST! The upper part of the track is now repaved and quite smooth, though the lower section is still bumpy concrete. I don't know anything about the group that runs the event on the 7th, so let us know how it goes. I'll be up there the following week .

There is a difference between a Panoz track day and a Chin Motorsports track day. At Panoz you pay a fee and have run group sessions. You get several (usually 3 to 5) twenty to twenty-five) minute sessions per day. The rest of the time you are waiting in line. If you miss a run group, too bad. Chin runs open track formats, you pay you drive.

The track days are put on by Panoz Racing School. There schedule is on there site www.panozracingschool.com. I think they give you 6 thirty minute sessions with some instruction in the morning. I believe they have professional instructors. I was wrong about the price. For what evere reason, it is $200 for the day. I thought it was usually $325. Maybe it is a special promotion? I am not complaining though.

Chin Motorsports is actually doing a track day at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday April 7 in conjunction with a World Carz race event. Unfortunately the event is only open to experienced drivers. Cost is $200 for approx. 3 hours of track time.

The April 14th CMS event at Sebring is completely sold out. We do have novice slots for May 19th at Sebring.

Note that the "professional instruction" offered by Panoz is NOT in-car. The instructors are stationed at the corners and don't ride with you. They give you commments after your run session is over, but only if you go to THEM and ask. At a CMS event, the instructors are in the car with you ALL the time. You can also ride with them to learn by observing.

There's a reason why Panoz has lots of openings.......and a reason they lowered their price to $200!

On another intersting note, the cover photo they used to use for the Track Days website was from a Chin Motorsports event. They finally removed it when I insisted that they place "courtesy of Chin Motorsports" as a byline for the photo.
