Default Sighting... Silver at Moroso 3/29

Anybody here go to Moroso 3/29 in a silver and (i think) black? Not a racer, saw him driving back toward the parking area. With me, dolfandrus, and the guy with the new white one, there were 4 s2k's there. Not bad.

Wed and Fri are test and tune. Fewer cars on Wednesdays means more runs in less time, but I'm not home during the week. See post on moroso friday march 28 for details on my runs and a timeslip.

Basically, I spun forever on my first, 14.7. Then hooked up perfectly and was Killing a Mustang Cobra til I missed 3rd (got waaaay too excited). Didn't even try after that, ran 15.1. The Cobra ran a 14.138(??) and I was way ahead of him. I think I would have just been into the 13's or low 14's (I was about .3 faster on RT, so I think our ET's would have been close). I have a vid of it too, but don't know where to post.

I'll give you a couple tips (but I am a Novice too). As soon as the car in front of you moves into the staging lane, drive around the water and back up (not into the water, just enough to do your burnout). Pretty much as soon as the cars ahead of you go, do your burnout and move into the staging lane. Just don't run over the track personnel, they frown on that.

I like to stage first 'cause I have to look at the tach and get the car up to 6k or 6.5k and look back at the lights. Not sure how much you know, but there's two staging lights; pre-staged and staged. As soon as both lights are on for both drivers, the 3 yellow lights start going.

Stage your car. Watch the other guys lights, as soon as his second light comes on (or yours if he is ready before you), get your RPM's up, then look ONLY at the last yellow light. The instant you see the 3rd (last)yellow come on, go! Do NOT wait for green. Pretty sure green only comes on after you start to let you know you didn't jump. The lights come on in 1/2 second intervals, so it's pretty fast. I'd be surprised if you run slower than 14.7, but it took me a lot of getting used to. I've also pulled some 1.3+ reaction times (horrible). Perfect RT is .500, any faster is a red light.

Don't do a huge burnout, just a few seconds to get dirt/water off the tires. Also, my tires break loose easier on the track than on the street, so I spin a lot if I launch about 7.5K. Good luck, have fun.

Thanks for the info! Why the hell is there water in that part of the track anyway?

Do i need to rent a helmet or will they let me drag a few times without it?

The Super-street, Pro-stock, and Pro-street (etc) cars put their back wheels in the water to start those huge brake-standing burnouts. Street tires just drag the water into the staging area. You can watch all the other classes that run before Sportsman. That'll give you a feel for the lights and what to do.

They haven't said anything about the helmet the last two times I went, but I wear it anyway. The first two times I went they wouldn't let me thru tech without it. Guess it depends on who you get. You can rent for $15 from a guy with a stand next to the fuel pumps.
