Is this a car forum? j/k Nadia. If there is one thing that I know is that life is not fair. People come to the United States of America for freedom. I fight to give people the freedom to burn my flag, the freedom to protest "One nation under God", and the freedom to dishonor fallen soldiers at their funerals. If people want to speak Spanish, or Chinese, or whatever other language it is their right. However, it is also my right to speak English. I love the fact that we are able to debate this and other things. Some countries are not even allowed to do that.

 

To me English the the parent language of the USA. As a 3rd generation descentent of Central European Jews, French, Irish, German immigrants, and Cherokee, I was not allowed to speak any native languages. My grandparents were proud to have been able to come to America and you spoke in English only. Now I get offended when I am doing business with government/ other public agencies an get asked if I speak or I hear employees speaking Spanish.

"im in publix to put in my deposit at the bank. its nearly close of the bank so its jam packed full. i had something important to tell my mother so i was QUIETLY talking on my cell phone with her. this spanish/mexican/whatever language speaking girl comes and stands literally 4 inches behind me talking on her cell phone so LOUDLY the woman teller at the counter looks up at her (were the fifth and sixth person in line in a busy grocery store). i move forward two inches to get away from her and she moves up behind me. i proceed to do this three more times with her getting as close to me as she can. i turn around and say to her: im moving up because youre talking ridiculously loud and i cannot hear. 'no speak english??' is my response. honestly, it was all i could do to not smack her. that is uncalled for."

Never had a big black women do that? Of course it isn't in spanish, but the same concept is there. They'll most of the time start talking in their own tongue (ie, street talk). I heard more big black women do that then this spanish/mexican/wahtever language girls.

--i have never been to japan and you totally missed the point i was making. i said DESPITE the fact of tons of americans holding residence there, NO ONE EXPECTS THE JAPANESE TO LEARN ENGLISH. and they brought those bombs on themselves. theyre lucky that we still allow them to have a country.

Look, too many people are getting offened. All Fernies04s2k did was state her opinion. No need to get all fired up. I can see and understand both sides of the stories and I stand on the side of Fernies. I think that is bull shit how some people can come over from another county take the test get in.....then right away get a small bis. loan and start a Jiffy store or somthing. Some hard working Americans can't even get a loan because there "income" isnt high enough. But these other people can get a loan right off the bat. Also 20 years ago english was the main lang, of Florida. Now south of Orlando and Tampa its Spanish. Why not learn what the founders of America spoke. We speek a watered down version, still using many same words and similarities as they did, not alter the entire language. I know they are similarties in all language that date back and copy latin, but its America, we speak english. And I just looked in my little cousins school book at all the worlds flags and and population of other countires and LANGUAGE, Americas language is English. I think when you go some where other than your home land you should follow that places laws. Dont change our culture if you will.
If your of a Latin or German or whatever background then by all means continue speaking that language in your home or with family. Not in public and making others convert that shouldn't have too. Its an inconvince to have to learn another language beacuse more and more people are moving to America!


Also it bugs me when people complain about USA. If you don't like it get the fuk out!
