/////SUPERMEET POSTPONED\\\\\
Well it’s official. We have to cancel the Supermeet due to lack of interest and commitment. We cannot produce the event with the time left and the speed of payments as they are coming in. We had several people PM and commit verbally that they would register but we factored that in to our tallies and could not cover expenses. With verbal and PM assurances we had a total of about 20 registrants and our break-even point was well beyond that. Being a self-funded event, we had to produce numbers to cover expenses and it just did not happen. It is very unfortunate but it simply could not be avoided or remedied.
If we had more people and registration trickle in at a more enthusiastic manner, maybe something could have been done. We had to make a judgment call with the amount of time left and we could not justify the time left versus what money was needed, versus the speed at which registrations were coming in to say “it can be done”…it couldn’t.
We plan to reschedule a state-wide meet in our usual time of the year (early February). This gives us ample time to plan something with the appropriate amount of lead-in time (months not weeks).
Many of you may have followed the discussion thread and saw the “gauntlet” I (PrimoGen) threw down in there about other communities stepping up and taking the reins on producing an event. We welcome anyone else to plan an event in the interim. There was a large amount of concern in that discussion thread about getting other communities involved and I see no better opportunity than for those other communities to step up and plan something in the coming months. I will be the first to say I will offer any help I can to the cause.
We offer our apologies to the awesome and gracious vendors who stepped up HUGE to help this event get off the ground. You all are perfect examples of what is great about the S2000 community!!
Our most humble apology goes to those that expressed interest and registered for this event. Your refunds should already be complete and we express deep regret that we could not get something off the ground for a second time. The first time was a planning and venue issue, this time…..economy, timing, who knows….Something went wrong or was ill conceived and for that we are baffled and ultimately sorry.
We will reset our sights on planning something even better in February. If we don’t hear of another event being planned by say....June 30th, we will assume we are not stepping on toes and that we can move forward without issue.
Expect a multi-day event with several planned venues and more activities. Ideas include poker run, carts, track day, scavenger hunt, more prizes and raffles, maybe a S2000 car show voted on by the attendees…. I still think my fat ass in a dunk tank would set fund raising records…what do you think?
Look guys and gals, this is bad news up front but hopefully optimistic on the back end….what we could not do now will turn into something larger in the future. From those that planned this event and myself, we are truly sorry for this development and hope to make it up to all of you in the near future.
Make no mistake though, what we will plan will be an event....not a meet.....it will be pay to play. Just like the Dragon events, it will be a "private" event...sign up and register or simply say no thank you and move along. Not trying to be a hard ass or mean but a lot of work and planning goes into these things and the experience should and will be a reward for those that step up and contribute to it (Airgate and those guys taught us all a lot this year) .... the old saying goes: there is no such thing as a free lunch, right? Same thing applies to events.
I now open the floor for discussion (ideas, commentary, whatever you would like to express):

Wait... so we're going to have to wait until next year...?

I was hoping just for a postponement to late summer...
we have been basically running non-stop since December either trying to plan the first attempted supermeet, planning and producing the SPGP events, and then this failed attempt. All of this between other events like the GP in Alabama, The dragon, shows, other car clubs, people's personal vacations etc....
we are a little on the tired and verklempt side at the moment.
This in no way is to suggest that the guys here in Tampa are the only people willing or able to do anything. Anyone else can plan an event at anytime.
We talked it out together and decided the very best thing to do for us is to retract a bit and really focus on producing something special. To do that we need to get a clear game plan together and then hash it out with plenty of time to setup everything and give people seriously ample time to learn of the event, make plans to attend, register..... etc
Although I was not going to be able to attend this event, I know that I am not alone in saying that everyone appreciates all that Primo does for this community. Whether it did not come together because of logistics, the economy or whatever, I guess that it wasn't meant to be.
Looking forward, I am sure that we, along with the many new members that have become part of this community lately, are anxiously awaiting a reason to gather together again for an event.
