Default TAPPING SOUND IN ENGINE?

I have a 2004 S with about 60,000 miles on it. The tapping starts everytime the engine is hot.

It sounds like is coming from the front top of the engine. Is it the timing tensioner?

Thanks in advance

have you had your valves adjusted? I had mine done at 30K and it made a great difference.

it's probably either a loose valve or your chain tensioner is kaput.

Is it intermittent or does it go away from time to time?

Sounds like it's time for a valve adjustment meet. I have similar tapping and I'm at 60K.

Yeah, we did a valve adjustment...but the tapping keeps coming back after the car is hot.

Some times it goes away but the tapping comes right back.

It's most likely the timing chain tensioner! I have the same problem.

We need to have a TCT changing meet, LOL!

I had the same problem for about a year so last week I did something about it 1-Get a Valve ajustment 2-timing tensioner now no more tapping. make an appointment w/ 2NRWERKS in Tampa and they will take care of you (Best Shop In Town for all your S2K needs)

probably timing chain tensioner ... not a cheap replacement part (about $200) but is very easy to do if you're the least bit mechanically inclined.

I'd be happy to help anyone install one ... and it would be a good excuse to have a meet!

I did one and it's easy. Just don't pull the pin out until the part is on the car. I pulled it out thinking what is this for and the piston popped out and I couldn't put it back in. It took me a few hours but I got a c clamp to help me out.
