Any fuel that doesn't include an 18.4 cent Federal and at least in FL a 52.9 cent state/local tax is going to be cheaper than what is available at the pump. That means that every gallon cost 71 cents in taxes before other costs like infrastucture, advertising, payroll, transportaion are added. Magnagas and other homebrews will be cheaper until taxes and safety precautions/labor are added in then maybe only marginally cheaper, but way more enviro friendly. Also if anyone wants a way to make cheap hi-octane here is a link to an engine friendly race gas recipe.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a bike soon. Rainstorms I can deal with. The only thing holding me back is this damn heat. Walmart had some nice mountain bikes a while back with rockshox and disc brakes for$250.

Team,

It took me a long time in my life to get my finances in line to obtain a car of this caliber (look at my signature). After the proverbial Wife, a mortgage and 4 boys, I am really proud of this accomplishment. Regardless of the gas price, I'm keeping the S. I will make any adjustment necessary to remain Miata-Soltice-less.

For example: Last Sat, I traded the 03 Expedition (42K miles) on a new Mazda6 with the 4 banger 5/speed. It's a great looking car with just enuf pep to have fun but pretty much all show-no go. The payoff is the $110 a month gas savings. Last nite, we took the rusted old '89 Isuzu pick up to the Bucs game that I have for the 3 remaining teenage boys to learn to drive in. Also, my daily lunches put an additional 15 miles roundtrip along with the $7-$10 tab. I'm going back to brown bagging 3 times a week to compensate.

I'm kind of excited to investigate other ways to save the dollars to remain in the S family, even if it means driving her a tad less. After almost a year of ownership, everytime I open the garage and see the car, I still salute the vehicle and say Good Morning. No doubt, I'm easy & a cheap date but this car car still has me on a high and I'm not willing to come home from the honeymoon just yet due to inflating conditions. About the only thing that will make me eat my words is if my boyz get really stupid in their driving habits and escalate my insurance into oblivion.

HB - hit the pawn shops and make deals if you are serious about buying bikes. 250 can get 20 times the bike at a pawnshop Vs. any walmart or target.

Think Cannondale, Gary Fisher, Mongoose(the good mongooses) etc etc versus Roadmaster, huffy, hasbro LOL

It may take some looking around but you could get a $700-1000 bike for less than $250 with some leg work and haggling.

I am of the same mindset. I drive a min of 70 miles a day to and fro and if things get worse I am simply going to punch a hole in our netwrok firewall and dial in from home. There is nothing I can do at work that I could not do from home. Most of my developer buddies tele-commute already.

Cool

It's a wash for me my Toyota truck gets a little better than the S so I drive it in the rain and for work. Us North Tampa people are hard pressed to ride bikes to work.

What about a Vespa?

I was just thinking yesterday while at the pump that I was glad that we don't have big SUVs or other gas guzzlers. The S is a garage queen, so no worries there. My 04 Civic is decent on gas mileage, but Jim's 92 Accord seems to never have to be filled up. I think this further confirms that although I trade cars constantly and always saying I want something roomier- I'm just going to stay with what I have!!! Besides my car trading privliges have been revoked anyway.

I like the Insight- It looks like a CRX. A car near and dear to my heart.
