My company has a good size IT department ( we have Net Ops, Developers, Desktop Support, etc) but there are no openings right now. I would check out our website from time to time, though. www.edix.com

If I hear of anything else, I'll be happy to pass along. My husband (jvrabel) lost his job, too- so we know how it is! He has been going to a lot of networking meetings, so he may be able to pass along some info.

Best of luck to you!!!

Can we change the title to the official unemployment thread? Same here, unemployed mechanical engineer. I'm just glad not to be in IT. So many people from my groups are IT people.

I'll keep an eye out for you. PM me an e-mail address and if I run across anything, I'll send it to you. Good luck!

And to those with a job... no complaining! At least you have one. Be happy for that!!

Don't feel alone- I think last I heard there were 9 million unemployed people in this country. Its unfortunate, because there are so many people who worked hard to achieve what they have in their careers and they can't find a job. Its very different from a few years ago when there were jobs all over the place!

At any rate, another suggestion that I might make is to consider contract or temp work. I work in Human Resources and when I was a Recruiter, we ended up taking our good temps/contractors on board when we had suitable openings. So it can definitely get you in the door somewhere- we used this a lot for IT positions. There are a lot of IT specific placement firms out there- so I would call a few and see what is going on.

From what I understand about unemployment compensation---you can work temp jobs and then when they are over, you would collect your unemployment again from there. Jim considered doing some contract/temp work but we were concerned his checks would stop after it was over---supposedly they don't. But I would check with your UE office before doing so.

None of us are living high off the hog on the UE checks- but it would hurt if we didn't have them!!! It helps us keep the S, so I am greatful for them even though they aren't much!!

I've gotten my last three jobs from temp agencies. That's the only way I'll look for a job anymore. I had looking in the paper. I register and interview and the placement agencies and let them find me the work. Then, I can start with a company, if I don't like, I can leave, as there is a probation period.

Good luck, take on some temp work, it could go permanent or at least get your foot in the door, as well as make at least some money.
