Default Vacation to Florida

What's going on Florida!
So this is my FIRST PAID 2 week vacation I deserve!!!
After working almost 4 years @ Honda, I got "OK" from manager to take off two weeks straight. Anyways I've decided to go FAR AWAY from Maryland.
Florida. I'll be spending my vacation in Florida!

Vacation starts mid July through beginning of August. The reason why I created this thread is because I know absolutely nothing about Florida and maybe I can get some advice from Florida residents

My priority is to visit Miami and Key West but I will be staying in Orlando. Also another thing is I'll be taking my S2K on a train so I'll be driving around no problem. My girl knows some places but I want to know more since we got two whole weeks to play with. If you guys recommend any places, I'd love to write it down
Another thing is, how strict is Florida? As in having after market exhaust other parts/ front tag etc... anything you share will be very useful for me. I don't have crazy exhaust or other after market parts but I'd like to stay out of trouble.

My neighbor told me to take extra towels and glass cleaners because they said bugs are big there and I will murder lots of bugs there and speed limits are higher. Is this true?

thanks guys! Mark-

love bug season has ended, but always a safe bet to bring rags, class cleaner and quick detail. front plates are not required in FL. as far as aftermarket exhausts....florida is pretty lax, it all depends on the cop at that moment. i have where in orlando will you be staying? if you are interested in golf, check out www.reunionresort.com i'm your guy

hope you have a great time, and stay hydrated when you come down here, it will be brutally hot

I hate to scare you but seat thefts are huge in mid and south Florida so I wouldn't post specific locations (hotels) as to where you will be staying. And like mr. Williams said, Florida is really lax on car modifications.

Hi,

Lived in Florida for 22 years so pretty much know the state pretty well. If you are staying in Orlando there are plenty of things to do there (water parks, theme parks, outdoor stuff, a bunch of tourist stuf etc.) If you drive like 5 hours south on the turnpike you will end up in Miami. Miami has mostly the nightlife and the beaches. If you head a little south to the keys you can do some snorkeling and stuff like that, not sure if u are into that kind of stuff. Maybe an airboat ride in the everglades with some alligator wrestling might be something you can do that would be different. If you drive like east of orlando on I-4 you can hit up the beach there also. Head west of Orlando and you can hit up Tampa, another big city that has an amusement park, not sure what else it has to offer.

If you are going to bring your S2000 to florida, be real careful where you park it. Most of the intelligent owners have an alarm and seat locks and park it in a garage. The idiots are the ones you read about their seats or car stolen after a week of owning it. So pretty much be careful where you park, especially in Miami if you come down here. I heard Orlando can be bad too but enjoy your time here.

Get ready for the humidity and sun.

It's just a car. If you want to drive it, drive it. That's what insurance is for. If it's a major concern for you, stay in one of the many resort-style hotels that have gated entries with security guards.

I stayed here recently and it was amazing:

Westgate lakes is a decent place. I used to work for westgate, and its an okay property. This is central Florida, you have 100's of places to choose from to stay, and way too many things to do in 2wks. We all hope to see you soon!

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE!! I feel welcomed already

Mrwilliams - Thank you! I never golfed before but if I end up golfing, you will be the first person to know when I get back haha I'm not sure exactly where it is but I believe it's near Sea World. International Drive. I think there's plenty of things to do just in that area

dc2-2-ap1 - Gee this is really scaring me. I better find somewhere safe. This is another reason why I should save up for HT. Thanks! I believe my resort is gated. Phew

gatorbait4me2000 - You bet! I will be driving like crazy. I DROVE 16 hours straight last year. 5 hours is like baby now lol I will be visiting many beaches (Daytona Beach/Clearwater Beach/Palm Beach etc...) my gf knows more, I'm just the driver. She's the navi But yes I'm planning to spend most of time in Miami!

s2kmiami69 - NEVER! haha I already bought the ticket. It's gonna happen!

352s2000 - Exactly. If it happens then it happens. Time to get Bride Seats!

Watch out for Florida drivers, theyre even worse than New Jersey drivers (although not by much). This includes LLDs (left lane d***s, the people that drive speed limit in left lane), stopsign runners, and DMDs (driving miss daisys, people that insist driving below the speed limit). Watch out for the Cocoa Puffs (cadilacs with 24 inch chrome wheels) and flipped over vehicles on sides of highways, no joke i saw three of them on one single trip to orlando, from tampa. One was on fire. Also there are an inordinate amount of cars abandoned on the sides of highways. Do people just get tired of driving and decide to leave there cars? Because thats what it seems like. Welcome to florida.

Haha. Yeah you better make sure you stick near the drivers who keep it somewhere between the "Miss Daisys" and the "flipped in the ditch."

According to this description, I'm a DMD so stay away from me.
