The max letters are 7 for standard plate and 5 for specialy tags with left logo.

You can have up to 7 letters & one space (or dash) on a regular plate.

You're going to have to be creative to find one that's not taken. Get a list, narrow it down to your top 5 or 10 choices. If you call the DMV office in your county, I believe they'll check 3 or 4 of your choices at a time. (At least this is what they did in Broward). I found that a lot of the things that are spelled correctly were taken and even a lot w/ substitutions (ie: Q for 0) were also out of the running.

If you like "RICEFED" so much why not get "SAKEFED"?

 

It would be too similar. It needs to be as cool but still unique. I was tinkering with the Sake thing in different config's but did not want to imply DUI type issues either. The state has to evaluate each submission and it might frown upon possible DUUI related material. Good suggestion though thank's
