Thumbs up What camera

I am looking to upgrade from my Sony cyber-shot to a Nikon or Canon, I am pretty much a beginner, but do not want to half to upgrade in a year from now, what are some good ones to check out? Thanks

Are you thinking of making the jump to a full SLR system or going to stay point and shoot?

I shoot canon (50d and 30d) 15 and 8.2 MP respectively.

You can get some great deals on the 40d. How much you looking to spend??

Would like to get away from point and shoot, and be in the $400-$800 range.

I just got a Nikon P80 and I love it! I wasn't ready for a full SLR so I got a superzoom with lots of SLR-like features and it had been great so far.

I got my Canon 30d last year for 550 for just the body itself. You can get a 40d for alil more.

When I did my research they said the canon is good for moving objects like racing, and Nikon is better for portrait pics of stuff like landscaping.

Cant go wrong with either though.

But I loved my Canon.

IMO Canon or Nikon are great choices for dslr. You might want to start researching the lenses first. Then match the body based on your findings. If you think you'll be sticking to dslr I would get an entry level body and spend more on a good lens. Upgrade the body later. Good luck.
