Default Wheel damage - need some advice.

Had an expensive dinner and a movie with the wife this weekend....some idiot decided to cut a large retangular chunk out of the road and with cars around me all I could to was slow down slightly before the impact. Dented the lip on both wheels on one side. (the silver ring on SSR GT3's). Hard to tell the full extent of the wheel damage with the tires still on but the dent in the lip is very obvious.

2 questions -

1. In searching, I read good things about Transwheel, with Fixrim and Turbax also getting positive feedback. Any thoughts? I'd love to find something in Naples/Ft. Myers but figure it's probably going to take going to Tampa or Miami. Wouldn't mind finding a place that refinishes too. They have a few nicks from tire changes and I might as well have them cleaned up while they're off the car.

2. No laughing but....Do I have an recourse with the county? It's not as if it's just an unfortunate pothole - some construction company decided to destroy the road and leave it. If a motorcycle hit this it would be really bad. I was driving an E46 with no drop on 18's - pretty much oem fitment.

Thanks.

Ouch....I would report this to the county immediately and ask about putting in a claim. Clearly negligence by somebody.

I would def contact the county on that, no idea on recourse, but that's absolutely a hazard to all types of vehicles.

Transwheel is good, no experience with any other companies.

Sorry to hear about the damage.

try to get a picture with something in the hole to show scale and from every possible angle. Also, a few shots of regular vehicles attempting to avoid the hazard and thus endangering anyone adjacent to them on the highway (especially pedestrians). You could even go as far as to place a small sign about 100ft away saying " have you had car/wheel damage from this unsafe condition? Call me @XXX-XXX-XXXX" Always a stronger case with more than one situation. This could be as minor as needing an alignment.

... i had an almost identical issue in Atlanta 4 years ago.

Keep in mind that even municipalities will use contractors to complete this type of work. However, the contractors usually are bound by the same liability and safety stardards.

Contacting the "Risk Management" official for the locale is a good first step. The person can sometimes be referenced on the local website or by calling the legal department for that area (aka 'city attorney')

Let me know if you need help finding them.

Thanks to all for the good advice...

I contacted the county and someone sent me an email within about an hour saying that they would look into it immediately. Surprisingly, they also left me a message later in the day at home asking me to call them back.

Hopefully this looks worse than it is!
