What kind of mod was that? I certainly don't want that to happen to me.

I cut out a piece of the side faux vent, about a 2 inch hole and had a tube that went up into the air box. I also cut out a portion of the baffle. I never thought water would travel vertically about 2 feet, then get past the remaing baffle and be enough to hydrolock the engine. I did however have to drive through a portion of downtown that was flooded but I put a little drain plug that fits perfectly in the hole that was cut into the air box. Another weird thing is it took a little less than a week for the water to ruin the engine. It ran perfectly until it screwed the engine.

Thumbs down

Driving in flodded streets is just Retardo Montalban IMHO no matter what setup you have. Pullover, reverse course do what ever but save yourself a few grand and not try to traverse flooded anything in the future

I have a AEM V2 that I have driven for the past 3-4 months here in florida during severe weather with no problems. What ever setup you have, you are drawing over 14 lbs or more of air pressure when running the motor so keep that in mind when devising custom setups for intakes. 14 lbs of vaccum pressure at the end of a tube will suck water vertically over 4 stories high.

Sorry about your loss but try to devise a breather/bypass valve or something silimar to the AEM accessory that is available for thier intakes.

No bypass valve, yet but I have driven through the worst Florida can offer. Minus diving into 3 foot deep puddles mind you, but I have not come across any problems yet. I worry too about the rundown water from the rest of my hood channels dumping ontop of my intake but the I think the INGS+1 front end is offering some protection of some kind. I am going to install the bypass ASAP just in case.

I was implying earlier, that with modified intakes, more caution should be administered. I personally would have never tried to go through standing water especially if I had conjured up a coldair snorkel like the one described. Time constraints or previous engagements be damned, I would not have risked a new block/engine over it. I would have stopped/parked or turned the beast around and found another way around.

back on subject: if you have no luck getting and OEM airbox I have one with the walls and baffles cut out if you need one.
