Default Brakes

I need to do pads and rotors on the S. I was planning on using a Wagner Thermo Quiet pad but I am also curious as to what other ppl are using. Most likely a cheaper rotor since I do not reuse them(no lathe). If possible please list your pad and rotor brand.

Thanks

You can have your OEM rotors turned for $20 or so at a Car Quest... as long as thickness is within spec. As for pads, I'm more than happy with stock pads. They supply good stopping power, plenty of life and they are a very affordable. I've used them on the track before (so has Greg) and had no problems.

If you decide to go with a more aggressive pad, keep in mind that ceramic pads tend to squeak when they get hot and leave brake dust which could eat the clear coat on your wheels.

Thanks for the input Keith.

I will take the rotors to a shop but just incase they cannot be turned I will need the others available.

What material are the OEM pads? Napelton did not have them in stock and it takes 3 days to get them here, plus I have to pay first which adds another day before I can get to the dealer. Wagner's can be in tomorrow if I use O Reilly's. The wagner is a ceramic pad. Thoughts, comments??

Anyone know anything about O Reilly rotors? They are willing to price match pretty much any offer.

I don't know much about the Wagner pads specifically but I switched to a ceramic pad in my previous vehicles with good results. I have found that the ceramic pads shed much less break dust than the standard pads. My Saab 9-5 wheels would only stay clean for 3 days with the semi-metallic pads and after the switch to ceramic pads I could go 2 weeks between cleanings.

Just my $.02

I warped my stock rotors and had to get new ones. I got some Powerslot rotors and ran them with stock pads for a little bit. Then I decided to get new pads cause I had 70,000 miles on the original pads. I even had a dozen or so autocross events and 5 or 6 track days on them and they still had almost a half an inch of material left. I wanted a little more stopping power though and bought some Hawk pads from the Tire Rack. The Hawks do really well. They do take a few minutes to warm up though and I don't think they dust that bad in daily driving. Look on the Tire Rack website though, they have quite a few different choices for pads and rotors on there for good prices.

I myself run OEM rotors and pads. Have 68K on my car and have only needed one rotor turning and pad replacement. Was pretty impressed that they lasted this long and as Keith says... they are very affordable. Consider flushing the brake fluids while you've gone this far

Be carefull with the "free rotor turn" at O'Reilly. It's been my experience in most cases, that anything "free" is not worth much. You may also have a "minimum purchase" requirement before the turn is free.

stock rotors and pads with +68k miles. Had them inspected when the car was at Greg's Auto Care and he said they looked fine (i.e., plenty of wear left in them).

I believe SlipAngle79 & FormulaRedline have aftermarket pads...

Hey Doug,

If you are in need of OEM pads soon, you can try contact Huey's too to see if they have them in stock. Or I know Bill (bill2sk) has a set that I'm supposed to buy from the next time I see him. But if you need them, you can take them off his hands.

I am replacing both front and rear otherwise I would use Bill's. But thanks for the offer.
