So my wheel bearing is toast on the left rear - it sounds terrible now. Does anyone have the S2000 ball joint seperator tool? It retails for like $170, I can probably get it for $150, but the hub and bearing are already going to cost me $160. Starting to wonder if I should do the CV too while I'm at it.

I have a 1/2inch and also a 3/8inch impact. Let me know if you need either or both of them.

Edit: Sorry I did not realize the date of the post.

I just had to replace my ball joint - I did all of the dis-assembly and re-assembly myself and took the ball joint/hub to the dealer - they changed out the balljoint for I think 50 bucks. I'd try that if thats what you're looking to do.

Hmm, well my ball joint is ok so it would be nice to not have to replace it. Did you bring the control arm to them?

Nick,

FYI, I looked into it and yeah, we could totally remove the knuckle with the hub and bring it to a shop to have the bearing pressed out and pressed back in. I don't have a press or the various 'Honda' tools to press it.

Did you use the Honda ball joint seperator or something different? I have read over the procedure in UTH a couple of times and it seems using anything but the Honda BJS tool is a no no. They claim that you will will almost certainly tear the boot with other tools. Just wondering if you had any issues with that?

Keith-

Sounds good, we would have to work on it at my house since I will need to take the hub assembley to a shop and I am assuming we would work on it after 5pm or on a weekend. I'm about 10-15mins west form you on Manchester.

Yeah, I have a ball joint separator tool... you don't need a special Honda one... I've used the ball joint separator on Preludes and on my S2000 with no problems. Even if the boot gets torn, which I've done but not by using the ball joint separator tool it's an $8 part.

I don't think it would take much time for the hub to be pressed out... if we got the hub out in the morning and dropped it off at a Honda dealer/shop, I'm sure we could get it back within a few hours. I would just want to get the shop a heads up.

Slip - I did not use the Honda balljoint seperator - I agree with Keith.... you could get by with using his. I dropped my hub off in the morning and they had it ready a little after lunchtime. So about 4 hours (and they were pretty busy) so it shouldnt take that long.
