I would keep it all stock, maybe not even get the sports model just for effect.
We regularly get in the 33 to 35mpg range ... less if Inge drives

Also, remember Inge has a spare set of the Sport wheels & tires in case you/your Mom decide to Jazz up a Base model, should you get one

I would like to find one with a blown engine for myself. My Mom would keep the Suburban for haulling horses and such and use the Fit as a grocery getter - I am advising her to get the Sport model with paddle shift AT. If I ever get one - I'll take you up on the wheels and wrap them with R888's or something to cope with all the K20 badassness
