Many subtle differences in the 2002
850 was over at my house last night and we did a close comparison between my Spa Yellow 2001 and his Sebring Silver 2002. Here is a short list of items, some of them you may know about and others were very surprising.
Besides the Glass back window, radio/tweeters, shift knob and silver accents we noticed the following:
1) Plastic piece behind the head rests (backside of the seats) no longer plain black, Honda added a grey/bronze metallic finish. Much richer looking.
2) Same metallic finish on the dash around the instrument cluster.
3) Same metallic finish on the center console. Cup holder door cover now has some texture (like the dash, 2001 was smooth)
4) Leather (vinyl?) center console cover extends around behind the seats. Also a second piece extends out to the door jam. Much more extensive than Rick's center console cover.
5) The aluminum pieces on the window frame that the top hooks fasten into are different. They look to be redesigned for easier latching and maybe less rattle/wear.
6) As 850 has stated, the boot does not have two center snaps, for a total of 4 snap instead of 6 as in the 2000/2001. Also the boot is thinner/lighter. The 2000/2001 boot is much heavier.
7) The finish in between the spokes on the rims is different. More of a bronze tint and the surface is rough, not smooth like on the 2001. This may be unintentional, maybe the result of a new supplier for the aluminum wheels.
Honda changed a bunch of little things guys/gals, who knows how many "tweaks" they did to the mechanicals? Didn't test the feel of the clutch/tranny but I bet that's much improved also.
BTW, nice car 850!

Thanks! S2K Dude,
It was to my surprise too with all these new findings!
Where are all the nice pictures that you took last night?
Can't wait for the XV9 (Perma-Finish) to cure and ready to install the Stongard. So, that I will feel safe to drive on the "dirty" roads of Atlanta.
Should have my grill install by this weekend. Stongard Dave, Do I need to remove the grill before installation of the Stongard?

I need to crop the pictures and put the comparo shots side-by-side. You'll have to give me a little time.
They really are subtle changes but it's amazing that Honda went to any effort at all on some of these things. Just goes to show that the 2002 may have just added all of the finishing touches.
