It isn't the machine that takes out the swirls, etc it is the compound. All the PC does is make it easier. A LOT easier, in this case.
You could do it by hand, but you would get tired after doing the gas cap if you were going to do as well as a porter cable would.

I swear by PoorBoy products. http://poorboysworld.com I think they are super easy to use and give great results. My only complaint is that the polish dusts a lot when you take it off. The powder gets EVERYWHERE and makes a bit of a mess. Their waxes, however, are AWESOME.
