All you need to do, Zeke is contain the concrete somehow so it adheres to the post. You can either just dig a reasonably sized hole or use one of those tubes. In theory, the bucket would work but I am suspect because they are really smooth and are smaller on the bottom than on the top. That means they could pop out of the ground fairly easily.

FWIW, the posts for my front porch are set in buckets.
The reasonably-sized hole is dictated by code. In our area it is 16"x16"x18". If hole is round, it must have a diameter of 18". Having talked with Mike Loving, there is almost a foot-and-a-half difference between how deep we need to dig here in F'burg and his requirements in the B'more area.

Yeah, one day all of your cultural references will be from the previous generation.

Frost line in AA County-18 inches.

Hole will be 24 inches.

Using concrete tubes now.

I would, too. Digging our 16x16x18 holes is a PITA. Excavating the last couple of inches in a hole that size requires being on your knees and scooping the last bits out by hand. Bigger hole, while a bit more work, is probably easier.
