In other news, a staple of my childhood has gone away. Coolfont mountain resort in Berkley Springs WVA.
I drove up there with the wife yesterday, was going to show it to her. Drove up the mountainside with the privately owned homes. Everything looked in order, except there were more for sale signs than I remember. In fact, there were no signs allowed last time I was there. But that was 8 years ago sooo
Then I drive past the lake to the main lodge. Lake looks like shit, beach needs replenishing, and holy crap, the whole thing is chained off and marked for demo. Everything is marked no trespassing.
They closed the resort in 2006 and closed the restaurant in 2007. The original owners, Sam and Martha, sold the property to a developer afoter 40 years of ownership. New owners want to add 1200 homes, but keep the retreat feel of the area. Houses start at 289k for 2bd/1bath.
In WVA.
I hope they can pull it off.
