I can recall reading/hearing such talk back when DVD's were new. The remote thing was more of an issue then, too. There are so many really good universals out now that I no longer think this is an issue. I am pretty much stuck with my cable box remote anyways. :sigh:

Are you telling me that your cable box is configured such that a learning remote would not be able to "learn" necessary commands?

As for HDMI, v1.3 is what you're looking for. Anything less and you're wasting your time and potentially choking another piece of equipment's potential. To be able to take advantage of certain audio codecs, it is required.
