On a side note to Jason's proclamation of Avatar's experience, 3D television is coming. The technology is already here.
My buddy's dad worked for Sharp. Going back 10 years to my senior year in H.S. he had demo hardware for 3D computer LCDs, he had a phone using it, and a PDA. All very cool, and VERY expensive. For computers, there was a specially made driver that made it work with games. Neat stuff... I'm disappointed it still isn't available in the mass market.

Best part? It required no glasses. There was just an optimum viewing distance for it to work.

some 3D movies are done really well, others, meh. I think the clear lens glasses are better than the red&blue ones.
