yes?

well airlines work in the same way. Except that gas / regulatory fees / security improvements / wages have risen faster then ticket prices. Therefore people are charging for bags (Adds weight therefore uses more fuel)

Because they keep over selling flights I'm on and paying to put me up in a hotel rather than just flying me home.
