Why Dogs are way > cats
I just received this from my stepfather. He has tunnel vision (legally blind for 10+ years) and is about 80% deaf, but he is only about 63. They live just off a two lane highway near Columbus, OH.
Your Mom asked me to pass this news item along. This was a momentary trip to an alternate universe.
This happened late yesterday afternoon. Two people in a Honda being chased by three police cars (two Highway Patrol and a County Sheriff) decided to try to hide in our garage. The door was open and your Mom was at the Arts Castle, so in they came. The guy jumped out and made for the door into the house but backed off when he heard Buxton going bananas on the other side of the door, I was told afterwards.
I was upstairs, and went down to see what Buxton was barking at (it's usually the Fed Ex guy or a meter reader). I see a car in our garage that isn't your Mom's and isn't Ryan's, who was coming over to watch hoops with me. My first thought was that for somebody to come into your garage they must be hurt. Buxton and I walk out into a daggone cop show. There were lights flashing everywhere. I didn't see this, but two cops had a guy down in the grass on the lawn and two more were coming into the garage with their hands on their guns (that I did see). I said, "What in the world is going on here?" I was standing right by the driver's door and a young woman was behind he wheel. She looked up and said, "I just pulled in." I was just about to say, "I can see that," when a Highway Patrol woman as tall as I am came towards me with her left arm straight out in front of her to stop me, put her hand on my shoulder and said, "Sir, I want you and your dog to go back inside the house. We've got it under control."
So we did. She later came up to the door and apologized for all the commotion, and asked for permission to search the garage and grounds in case "some guns or drugs were hidden." . Your Mom and Ryan showed up a few minutes after it was all over and the two people were arrested and put in separate cars. Two things the Patrol lady said by way of explanation made me think. One was, "I wanted you inside in case weapons got involved," and the second was what she told your Mom:
"If it hadn't been for the dog, he would have gone inside."
So here's my thought. I go nationwide with this, funded by Pedigree, and tell America to stop buying guns for home defense, they won't do you a damn bit of good in a case like this. Buy a dog from the Humane Society instead.
Dogs rule.
