It's not just the marketing, either. With him solidified in their clubhouse for years to come, the organization can court bigger name players more effectively.

 

Ichiro is well worth it. He's the best center fielder in the league and best leadoff hitter. Seattle just needs to get some good bats behind him to drive him in.

 

Best CF in the AL? Arguable. Sizemore is neck and neck with him - Ichiro has topped out, but Sizemore has an even higher ceiling.

 

Actually looking at his defensive numbers I'd put his play at around $13-14 million.

Anecdotally he is an excellent defender, but the numbers back that up too... he's saved about 8 runs for his team compared to an average center fielder, which is pretty damn good.
