that is a good chart.. hahahaha..... well just ask naveed.. he knows my style of driving..
I can vouch for that, lol. to be completely accurate, reduce all of the mphs for the gears by about ~5 mph...

I voted 15-20, but I average around 19... mostly because I don't do much if any highway driving, typically short trips and I'm always all over it. 80k miles of all over it. I'm also about due for my 7th? 8th? set of rear tires... Probably another set of T1S's (245/45/16)... I like to drift and slide

For those of you shifting at very low points, you're doing more harm than good. The injectors won't like it over time. And, you may be making your engine work harder than it has to. I'd suggest shifting around 5k if you're looking for the best economy and wear.

Some of have different mph shift points because of gearing.

I was actually asking my mechanic this morning about it, and I've heard a lot of different takes on this - Skip, can you explain to me how it hurts the injectors, etc?

Most of the people who talk about it have not been able to explain to me why they have their opinion... so I've been looking to gather information...

I usually get most of ideas while under the influence of crack-cocaine.

For those of you that do only city driving, you are more prone to clogging injectors over time despite using the best fuel. I've also been under the impression for many years(and there may be the problem- time) that one needs to "blow out" the fuel system a la some high speed driving(freeway). Maybe that was directed more at carburated vehicles- don't know.

While those shifting so low are actually stressing/working the injectors less, I believe this may add to the clogging issues. Spray patterns become bad, etc.

More importantly, you're making the car operate out of it's most efficient range. I can see being in a higher gear at lower speeds so long as acceleration has ceased and a speed is being maintained. But during acceleration, you are making things more difficult on the engine than shifting at more appropriate rpms.

Our car is said to be a low emmissions vehicle. This is only true during non-VTEC operation. In VTEC, it ain't even close. I wish I knew where to find the article that I got this last bit from. Sorry.

In the end, perhaps it's not the worst thing in the world on the injectors, but you're lying to yourself if you think it's the greatest thing for your engine.

And for the record, I used to get about 24-25 mpg(320 miles to a tank on a good day) before the supercharger. Then it was down to 20-21 mpg. With it coming out of the shop tomorrow, I'm sure to be in the 15-16 mpg range(200 miles or less).

Also, my mileage dropped after properly calibrating my odometer/speedometer. Those that are getting upper 20's are most likely putting more miles on your car than you are actually driving. Sad, but true. There is a margin of error somewhere between 3-5%.

it's also not natural... for the car, the engine, and tranny to shift at such a low point... if you're accelerating and you shift at like 5k the transition will be smoother then when you're shifting at like 3k...
