(Oahu here) Yeah I've yet to visit Kauai b'c I'm saving my money for a SuperFerry visit with my WRX to Maui, and then off to Big Island for snow and lava! Either way, anywhere, you'll enjoy it here. Brochures do this place NO justice whatsoever.
Congratulations!

look into www.vrbo.com It's a vacation rentals by owner website, some deals can be had there.
Also check into all the condo's around Poipu, it's a good place to base yourself out of on Kauai for a few days.
Kauai is great, not a lot to do there except what honeymooners do.

Not much of a night life on Kauai but there are a few things to do depending where you are staying. In Poipu there is a place in the Sheraton Called the point, has a open bar, dance floor pool tables and live bands on occasion. In Lihue you have a few bars near the Marriott. For the North Shore you have a place calle the Landing Pad which is alright, live local bands on the weekends, you also have the Happy Talk Lounge and the Living Room bolth good places to relax and enjoy the view. Tons of great secluded beaches all over the place, you jusy have to look for them. Lots of hiking and other out door adventures, such as ATVing, biking, skydiving, surfing, fishing, golfing, powered hang gliders, helicopters, horseback riding, kayaking, snorkle/scuba, zip lining, and tons of boat tours
Lots of nice places to stay, if you want to stay central, look at places in between Poipu and Kapaa. Lihue is inbetween those two cities and is where the airport is. The North Shore is one of my favorite places, a hotel that is near where I often ventured to the beach is called the Pali Ke Kua, not too sure how nice it is but the area is nice and it looks like a okay place. Places more central worth looking into would be the Aloha Beach Resort Kauai, Kauai Beach Villas, Kauai Sands, Lae Nani (overpriced), Pono Kai, Wailua Bayview, Kuhio Shores, Poipu Makai, Poipu Shores, Sheraton Kauai, and Whalers Cove just to name a few. There are some I left out which are still good hotels, if you find one and have a question ask and I will see if I can help you out with it. Some of these hotels are better for just sleeping and others are a bit more up scale. Good luck and if you have any questions just ask..

Thanks all. Are any of you guys local to Kauai? I booked 2 nights at the Princeville Resort and 5 nights at the Hilton Kaui Beach Resort.
I recently found this article and starting to second think my choice. I've also read on Trip Advisor that this resort is outdated and showing age. Can anyone comment if they have seen the facilities recently?
