It depends what kind of food you like. There are two Sam Choy's on Oahu, and I think one on the Big Island (in Kona). On Oahu, I prefer the Sam Choy's breakfast lunch and crab restaurant. Personally I like the roasted garlic dungeoness crab. That's only if you like to eat the body and don't mind using your fingers and making a mess! Most of the other dishes they serve are great as well. The Sam Choy's in Kapahulu has an excellent Pulehu (sp?) steak and the other dishes there are great as well.

We'll be on Oahu near Waikiki with a group. Pastas, beef and seafood would probably be preferred. Thanks for the info. How is a Pulehu steak prepared?

Plain with Hawaiian salt and crispy onions on top, very tasty! Sam Choy's will be a great place to go with your friends, either one. They have generous proportions, so you won't leave there hungry. You might also want to try Nick's Fishmarket (fine dinning, but casual attire). It's in Waikiki on Kuhio Avenue. You must try the rack of lamb, one of their best dishes there. Another place is the Chart House (one of my favorites, again in Waikiki in the Illikai Hotel), as they have great appetizers (pupu's), and great dinners too. If you go there, try the Kahuku prawns prepared in garlic and butter. It's a winner!!!

Thanks again rstark!

We actually met Sam Choy on an Aloha Airlines flight to the Big Island last year. Didn't have a clue who he was at the time and then saw his books and tv show listings everywhere. Extremely nice guy! Nick's Fishmarket sounds like a winner also. Looking forward to highs in the 70's! It's been freezing here!!!!

Roy's Resteraunt is also excellent fare, as is 3660 On The Rise. Both are great examples of Pac-Rim cusine.

I also prefer the Sam Choy's breakfast crabhouse over the one in Waikiki....it was cool to see a hand washing station right in the middle of the restaurant.

If on business....John Dominis would be neat because they have a man made pool with stingrays in the restaurant as well as a seafood island displaying the local catch of the day.....the food is great as well, steaks and seafood

John Dominis Restaurant
Where: 43 Ahui St., Honolulu, HI
