FIA to Listen to F1 Fans' Voices
By Jonathan Noble, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:29

Formula One fans will this week get a unique chance to help change the sport for the better, as motor racing's governing body goes public with the biggest ever fans' survey on the state of Grand Prix racing. With FIA president Max Mosley having long believed that team bosses were overlooking the interests and desires of spectators in their move to agree on a future direction for F1, the FIA has initiated the survey to make sure the supporters' voices are heard.

An FIA spokesman told Autosport-Atlas: "At the beginning of 2005 the FIA launched a consultation on the future of Formula One with all of the sport's stakeholders. We felt that including Formula One fans in this process was essential.

Nice. I'll be on the lookout for that survey.

"Why aren't you watching racing?" Because you're not hawking beer and racing taxi cabs that use 50 year old technology.

I think going back to steel brake rotors and getting rid of about 90% of the wings and aero would make F1 actually exciting to watch again. The combination of insanely short braking zones and "dirty air" off the back of the cars makes passing almost a thing of the past. IMHO.

During one of the pre-race shows for Monaco they showed Senna driving the Honda/McLaren for a lap around Monaco. I had to fight back the tears I was so moved; damn I miss those days. To see the master holding onto a plain round steering wheel with a Honda logo in the center with his left hand as he shifted with his right was just amazing.

Survey is up. Dog slow, though - lots of 404 errors, so keep re-submitting your answers.

Also, does anybody else find it funny there is no American Flag? Usually "English" is always denoted with Stars & Bars.

I just took the survey. Unfortunately they don't offer any space for you to compose your own comments. It's clear from the choice and repetition of questions, that there are certain topics they are interested in, and others they don't care about. It's a bit frustrating.

I hope I don't win the Ferarri branded laptop. It would be a shame to chuck such a nice machine out the window.

Yep, they were definitely angling towards a few things. # of races, different countries, # of teams were all a recurring theme...and the whole technical innovation vs. competition thing as well.
