In your opinion, what is the difference between this and the 40D? If I got the 30D would upgrgading to the 40D stupid?

i have both, to be honest, the differences are not worth the premium...the main difference is the sensor cleaning. 40d's are still pretty expensive, if you can find one at a deal, I would get it over a 30d...but that would have to be a good deal.

Actually the live view + the all cross-type focus points make a 40D better than a 30D IMO.

I still have my 30D, and I'm not upgrading that anytime soon, but given the two I'd probably pick a 40D if I don't have either camera.
