Default Check Your Odometer!

I get free oil changes at Tysons Corner Honda (formerly Rosenthal). Took the car in this morning. I was there about an hour. When I got into my car to leave, I noticed the seat back was WAY back...strange. I looked at the odometer, then checked my receipt. Three miles added, during an oil change? WTFO

A porter was busted for making a coffee run (or something) in my car before parking it. What an idiot...you don't mess with a car enthusiast's car, we notice EVERYTHING. Well honestly if the dolt hadn't tilted the seat back ghetto-style I probably wouldn't have noticed, so he's an even bigger moron for not putting it back where it was.

I raised holy Hell with the service manager, asked him to give me a good reason why I shouldn't slam them to Honda when they call me with a customer service survey about my latest experience with them. He couldn't give me an answer.

The moral of this story is: write down your mileage before you drop off your car anywhere...ANYWHERE. And check it when you pick it up.

P.S. Before you respond that I overreacted, I had a similar but more severe experience in Chicago years ago with my Alfa Romeo...the technician took his gf out to lunch in my car, put on 50 miles in one day. So - once bitten, twice shy!

You're not overreacting.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hmmm...here's a thought...

Learn to change the oil yourself. Not only will you save yourself some $$ you won't have to worry about a jackass "test driving" your car.

Good catch Diane....
and um... I'm going to have to disagree on the saving money option. She said she gets hers done for free.
I get my oil changes at my dealership for $10. I can't change my oil for less than $10 using an oem filter and fluids.
I just watch the guy do the work and the service manager doesn't mind.

That really sucks though that they'd use your car as a run mobile.

Depending on where you go...I think my last oil change was like $15 at a dealer I trust. Some people just don't have time or the interest in it.

Sorry to hear Diane.

I think the oil change idea is appreciated but the point is this was a "bad" customer service experience which customers should not have to be guarded about when they drop off an S2000, Honda's flagship sports car.

Actually, your cars LAST oil change was $10.

I have the time (sorta), and the interest, I just can't justify it when the dealership can do it quicker and cheaper and check tire pressure, fill up my washer fluid (even though i rarely if ever drive in the rain).

Checking my mileage before ANYONE gets behind the wheel of my car without me in it is a given. It's usually when I valet park my car (which is rare).

Sorry that happened to you.

Thanks guys and Warren, really, back down tiger! Not smart to make assumptions about people you don't know!

At one point back in the early 90s I had this old POS 83 VW Rabbit. My friends and I went to a valet-only restaurant and one of us needed something out of it part-way through dinner.

Imagine my surprise when the car was not in the parking area...as it turned out, the valets were using it to run the other valets back and forth from the lot to the restaurant's front door! I realized later that they had also helped themselves to some change in the ash tray.

I love people.
