funny while reading.. but in all honestly.. it's kinda sad that people have to endure that for a living..

 

I have to say that I still can't get over the fact that you are expected to tip at that level !!! 15-20% !!!! That's just crazy !!

Tipping should be an optional thing based on whether you have had good service or not. If the service you give me is crap, the tip you are going to get is going to be crap .... just remember that when you f@*k up on my order !!

This reminds me of a story. I delivered pizza's for a short time before joining the Navy. One time I delivered a couple of pizzas to this house in a not-so-choice part of town. It was the stereotypical redneck house. Shit all over the place, two cars in the driveway in disrepair etc. etc. Two guys all scruffy, looking like they hadn't bathed in a while and smelling like beer were working on one of the cars. I gave them the pizzas, they gave me the money but no tip. As I was walking back to my car one of the guys yelled.
"Hey, don't you want a tip?"
I turn around and he says
"Drive safely!" They both then started laughing out loud.

It's just something you have to deal with when working in a customer-service oriented job.

As Jack said, it's put on top as an option rather than included in the basic price of whatever you're ordering, which is more common in Europe. I like having the option to reward good service/penalize bad service. I'm a pretty generous tipper, but I've left 2 pennies before, and a couple 5% tips (one recently ). There are some places that include a 15 or 18% tip automatically if you have a big group, which really irritates me. Some of the worst service I ever had was with a group of 12-15 and then I have to give them 15%? That's usually when the manager gets summoned.

 

I've basically blown all my steam about tipping in the Retard Parade Thread. If the service is good I typically tip about 20%....you have to fock up pretty friggin badly to make me break that habit.

To me it's more annoying when the server over-does it? Like....I really don't need you standing over me every five minutes asking me if I need something else.....or want to order something on top of what I already have. Seriously. WHy don't they just eat the food for me?

 

I had a waitress like that on a date once (man that was a long time ago ). It's like "yeah, I'm trying to get to know her, not talk to you... go away"
