Default Comptech intake - Resonance

Do any of you other Comptech CAI user's get a resonance at roughly 4000-5000rpms under full throttle that causes buzzes and rattles in the interior?

I do and I hate it. I noticed that the CF cover was touching the hood a bit...so I added some velcro strips to it. Now I have removed it altogether and still get the buzzes at 4000-5000rpms.

Anyone else?

Did you attach velcro to the intake and the hood insulation material? Did it stop the buzzing? Did you remove the hood insulation? I'm a bit unclear on what you did, but suddenly glad I have not ordered the intake yet. Can you clarify?

I think I know what you are talking about. I took a piece of high-density packing foam, the kind used in packing electronics. The piece was 3/8th of an inch thick and a 4 x 5 inch rectangle. I used it to cover the hole on the top of the air box where the support rod goes. This solved the problem !!! One of 2 things might have caused this resonance. Either air passing through the support rod hole contributed to this sound or the CF top had a sympathetic vibration around that rpm range which help create the resonance. Or maybe both worked together.

Anyway the sound is soo sweeeet now. I can't believe the difference it made.

Comptech should have designed the CF top to drop under the hood support rod clip instead of over it, which created the need for the hole.

2x6spds...I attached it to the CF cover of the comptech intake.

Stwok...I have removed the CF cover and still have the problem

Just an FYI this is my second Comptech CAI...The first one did not fit until I did alot of trimming(to the airbox). I sent the pictures of my work to comptech and they are actually using my design now and they sent me a new one cut just like my old one.

Awesome customer service. Bob @ Comptech was Great!

Yeah it feels stronger than stock.

I do not notice the loss on the high-end that I noticed with the AEM. This leads me to believe that the comptech does not give the same level of low-mid rpms gains as the AEM does.

I noticed the same thing. So I added more padding(double sided weatherstripping) around the entire top lip, over the thin Comptech pad and it sounds better. I also think that they should have went under the the hood pin holder. I've ordered a couple of yards of carbon fiber and I'am going to try to make a new cover for the box. It will probably take a few weeks if it works I'll post pic's when I'm done.

This information is very frustrating to say the least. First off, just prior to ordering the Comptech, I find out I have to relocate the secondary horn or at a minimum, cut into the carbon fiber unit itself just to get the unit to work with my '02. I guess I'm anal, but when I spend (or have the intention of) $350 for a cold air intake, I would like not to have at the ready; duct tape, packing materials, dremel tools, hacksaws and gummy bears, etc just to get the darn thing to fit/work properly. These small little nit-picky details I expect from units costing 1/2 as much but damn...$350 is a lot of money to spend for a concept as simple as getting cooler air to the MAF. I would like to think after cutting the check, it's plug and play (so to speak). . Now I'm hearing of ill-fitting problems with regards to what appears to be a system that works.
I hope their latest version addresses these issues so the unit's apparently great results can be the focus of discussion and not the fitment and resonance maladies. The jpegs I've seen of those who have installed the Comptech look fantastic. Perhaps the above issues with resonance and fitment are in the minority? Then again, I'm waiting for the newbie version so maybe they have been informed of the fitment issues beyond the '02 change and the product will fit in our engine bay without modifications?

I only had the hood rubbing on the CF problem. I used foam tape to solve that problem. My CAI actually fit really well. I have had no other problems with it. I will try and get a pic of it on here today.
