Stock HU with Sub and Speakers Amp
If you go that route. You will need a amp that has speaker level inputs. I would recommend a MTX amp, because the amp will know how to turn on with just the speaker inputs(you won't have to tap a remote wire for the amp to turn on when the radio is on). If it is worth doing depends on your budget. If you don't wanna spend alot of money go for it. It will definately sound better than stock. I did try your route but I am "extremely" picky about sound, so I ended up getting a new HU.
I figured that using the stock HU as just a preamp/cd player verses using an aftermarket HU for the same purpose, there wouldn't be much of a sound difference.
What HU did you end up getting, and was there a noticable difference after the HU swap?

PJK3-- That sub looks amazing for that price, even the list on the site. What did u pay for it? I'm into the quality of bass, not just the thumping, so this sub looks perfect. I doubt it will fit in Lucid's sub box though.
hrm. i don't remember what i paid.... more than the current $145 though... i think i got mine as part of the preorder price of $165.
it may not fit in Lucid's box (depth i suspect), nor would the e10a fit..
but you might consider William's box, as it's almost perfect for the sub.
and this sub is definitely very strong for a 8".
