Default Can AEM EMS pass smog check in California?

I put mine in last week and this week the DMV renewal arrived and requires a smog check. Will they know?

I believe they connect to the OBD 2 port, which does not function with the EMS. Therefore it will not pass. It should pass in states where they only do exhaust tests however, if the tune is lean enough.

In CA they interface with OBD2? I thought I remembered them only putting a sensor in my tail pipe and testing at different loads on another car? But... that was a few years ago.

Well, I'll swing by the smog shop and talk to them and see whats up. I have a feeling there will be several people that end up in the same boat as time goes on.

yeah, I believe it also depends on your car, OBD2 has only been around for 4 or 5 years, I think. Phil, you are correct, I have an EMS on the way and I don't think CARB will look to kindly on ITB's

The new dyno-style smog testing uses a tailpipe sniffer and a connection to the OBD-II port.

Be also forewarned that if you do swap the original ECU back in, the car will have to be driven for a while to remove a "snitch" flag in the ECU. That is, if you swap out the parts and take it right in, the OBD-II port (from the ECU) will tell the testing computer that it recently had its memory reset and will stop the test.

The owner's manual (or Helm's manual, I forget) has the "quick and dirty" method of getting the ECU ready for a smog test. It still involves a bit of driving around though.

I dont !!! If I get them I will be stuck with the swap The good thing is, smog is usually only every three years, the bad thing, is the car will be down for a major overhaul to get that junk back in. Thanks for the well wishes, I'll probably need them especially if I start fiddling with the block and head next year
