In another thread I mentioned that you can mod your standard airbox to give more induction noise. And I promised some pics... so here are some pics and a description of some simple stuff you can do to get more noise from your airbox.
Here's a standard airbox. (I'm running a Mugen CAI, so this is my airbox off the car.)
The red arrows point to the spring clips. Just undo the clips by hand, and you can lift the airbox lid off.
Here's what's inside, and the under side of the airbox lid.
I've put some more red arrows in this photo. These are showing the partition and the top channel. This partition is restricting things a little. It's there primarily for extra water protection. Should water get into the first compartment, it would also have to get over the partiton to get near the filter. You can see the drain hole in th epicture, but I've not marked it. There's also a drain hole in the second compartment. If you remove all this partition, you'll remove a little water protection, but get more induction noise. You might notice a slight pickup in throttle response.
Now here's a picture with the filter removed.
The thick line points to the resonator. The arrow points to the hole into the resonator. The resonator is there to tune the noise. It's doing a similar job to the pipe you see coming off the exhaust. If you block the hole off, you'll stop the resonators effects. That's one thing you can try that's easily reversible.
Now I'm not going to claim that you'll get a much noise as with the lid off. What I will say is that doing either or both of these mods will not harm performance relative to the standard airbox. If you go one step further, and rig up some cold air hoses (which is quite a big job), you can improve the performance relative to stock. See Biker1's car for how to do this (Initially his hoses were too small - found by logging the car. The current version performs very well.). Biker1's car has more induction noise that standard, but still less than my Mugen CAI.
So this type of mod is worth thinking about for those after more noise. Especially with S2000's appearing in breakers - simple enough to buy a second airbox, and take a dremel to that to remove the partition, then block off the resonator. Budget for around 20 minutes to change the airbox should you wish to return to stock. Add a JR or K&N filter for a bit more noise as well, and you're there without anything tricky. Food for thought anyway.

Good idea. The whole airbox isn't exactly light... but I doubt the weight saving's that much. But it would be an easier to block off the hole if you cut the resonator off.
