After Hockey and I replaced my clutch fluid, the clutch play felt different. It engaged very quickly, and left a lot of freeplay when the pedal was fully up. I wanted it to engage later and have less freeplay.

Started by reading the Helm manual.


There are three different things to adjust, but two, A/B and H/I, are for sensors that tell when the clutch is fully engaged or fully released. D/E adjusts the pushrod to the master cylinder. I looked in the car to locate the real deal.


The important distances are the height of the clutch pedal when released, F = 7.5 inches, and the travel, G = 4.5 - 5 inches. I took a rough measurement to find that for my clutch, F was about 7 inches, and G was about 4.5. Not far off what it should be, and the difference probably due to measurement error. Here are the before pictures.




I loosened the locknut by turning clockwise with a 12mm wrench. Then lengthened the pushrod by turning it clockwise with my fingers about 1 turn. Tightened the locknut again.


Checked the travel again.




Okay, not much difference, but rather than overdo it, I took a test drive. Even that small adjustment felt a lot better, so I'm leaving it alone. I didn't have to touch the A/B or H/I adjustments. Those are in really tight quarters and hard to get a wrench around anyway.

Yeah, I did this when I had my new clutch put in. I had to experiment with which way to turn the pushrod to get it to shorten and lengthen.

This is an excellent writeup on how to do it. Don't forget that if you want to push the clutch pedal out more, you ahve to loosen and adjust the bolt on top, not jus the one on the pushrod.

 

After driving a couple of days, I notice the improvement. Not sure whether it's the clutch fluid change or the adjustment, but it has become much smoother to start up from a light. Shifting is more abrupt so I have to pay closer attention to matching revs.
