I've searched the site, but I don't find any discussion of an air bag on/off switch for the passenger side. My wife wants to punt her CR-V in favor of an S2K, but we'd rather our 5 year old not sit in front of an active airbag.

Has anyone dealt with this? I don't want to start an airbag debate, this is just a question as more and more cars and pickups come with this feature from the factory.

http://www.nhtsa.com

follow the airbag switch link.

i am getting one in my Type R tomorrow...10:30am by sensible solutions.... I like to tickle my kids while I drive, so that doesn't work when they are in the back, or when an airbag can hit them after I wreck..from tickling them.

I already have one in my S2000.

Since you're in the DC area you may want to check out Sensible Solutions and The Airbag Switch Company. I'm not associated with these companies in any way nor have I ever done business with them ... but when I did some checking around earlier this year I decided Sensible Solution would be the place to go ...

Have fun,
Derek

I had one installed. At first it was under the dash by the passangers left knee. Bad place. I moved it to the "glove box" just under the trunk release button.

Sam,

I have already been through what you are going through right now. After some time talking to some aquaintences who work in the ER, I decided that the bag was a risk worth taking with my 9 year old. He is big for his age, but I am told that airbags do more good than harm in an accident no matter who you are. You must do what feels right to you. I have an airbag switch with full installation instructions that I never installed. I would be happy to sell it to you if you are interested. PM me and we'll figure it out.

We had a long thread (debate?) on this topic a few weeks ago. You'll find it at http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=8627

Are the instructions S2000-specific or just generic? Does the switch look like a Honda part, or is it just a funky-looking thing that looks like it came from any cheap auto parts store?

spa2k,

The switch is a good one, not like one you would buy at an auto parts store. I bought it from The Airbag Switch Company. It is not a Honda part, but the instructions are Honda specific. I guess the detonation mechanism is the same in all of thier cars and use the same wire colors. A I recall from reading through the instructions, the detonation device is just above the passengers left knee in the dash and is accessible by removing the panel above the passenger footwell.
