These can work with the OEM stereo but it is highly recomended to be paired up with a new radio with high power output or even with a separate amplifier. Those with an '02 car can still bennefit from these as you can still use the OEM tweeters and just add them in to the system.

I believe that the OEM spacer just gets tossed and you screw right into the inner door. Mounting depth is so small it won't be an issue. I have done these in other cars.
