Default Attention '02 Owners! Top Question. (Pics)

I've had my '02 Sebring Silver for nearly a year now and I have about 26k miles. I've been noticing for quite sometime that when the top closes, after it has been open, that it folds upon itself slightly. I always have to take two fingers and glide it between the bar and the back of the top to smooth it out. I hope these pictures can help explain what I'm describing.

Normal, after I have used my fingers to smooth it out.

After the top has been put back up after folding it down.

From the inside. . .

Now, what I'm wanting to know, is if any other '02 S2000 owners have this same issue. I know that Honda will take care of it. The dealer offered to replace my top (of which I am not eager to really do).

Also, anyone else have this with their '02 top?

Normal, velcro like padding. . .

Driver's side is missing velcro like padding?

Thanks!

I just went outside and checked - I definitely have the velcro-like padding on both sides. I have never noticed the other problem with the top, and I put it up and down a lot...

I also have the velcro on both sides, never any trouble from top. If I were you, I would go for the free top replacement.

If you take it to Coastal Carolina Honda (or whatever it's called now)... tell me how they treat you...

both my velcros are off. I pulled them off since they were starting to fall off. I don't think they have a function after delivery.

The velcro is used to keep the protective tyvec sheet in place during shipping.

Airgate, My '02 has about 7,500 miles on it. The top has been up and down a lot. I have not really noticed a bump in that area so I believe mine has been laying flat.

I would run right out to look and report back, but my car is 7 hours away.
I took it out to the tube bender this weekend and the Triple-H Rollbar is now under way.

Good luck with your top. I'm not sure what to suggest. I would make sure your favorite Honda dealer knows about in, in case this becomes more of a problem later.

No problems here. The top on my '02 looks just like it did when I bought the car 6 months ago and I put the top down twice per day, nearly every day.

I dont need to use my fingers to smooth out the top after it has been folded for quite some time. It smoothes itself out in a moment.

:talking quietly: "Airgate: 350Z roadster, shhhhhh."
