Could you help me with Sound deadening in the S2K??
I'm posting this here because some of you seem to be very knowledgeable in the audio department, and have mentioned the use of products like Dynamat.
My issue is trying to significantly reduce the drone caused by my exhaust. For the record I love my exhaust and like the sound from outside the car even better, but the drone is getting to me on extended drives.
What I would like the hear about is if any of you have added any of the Dynamat type materials for audio purposes and had a side effect of reducing the drone? Do you recommend a particular brand I have looked a few others on eBay) ? I am open to most any suggestion and understand that this will add some weight to the car.
Please help I love my car but taking care of this will make it sooo much more enjoyable
I'm still running stock exhaust, so I can't comment on any effect there - but it certainly did help with stereo and there's a slight reduction in engine/transmission noise - what can you expect though, it's a convertible!
To reduce droning from an aftermarket exhaust, you could add some of their composite materials over top of the Bread in the trunk... or just try the brown bread first, then evaluate - the trunk comes apart very easy as you likely know.
I'm not expecting to make the car what I would call "quiet" just lower the resonance from the exhaust. This is an issue that several others have expressed an interest in getting done, but have yet to hear back if anyone was successful.
I emailed the makers of Brown Bread a while back and they of course said the product would "work" and may opt to add the composite if it isn't satisfactory. My problem is I don't want to do this and have little to NO effect. Seems like it's a permanent deal so I'd like to do it right.
Remember, the s2k is very sensitive to Dynamat or heavy insulation (weight wise). Do what I believe MacGyver did......hopefully hell see this thread and reply. To my understanding, a lot of outside noise comes from the area where the spare is....so work on deadening that first.
What's all that plastic looking stuff in the first pick? Looks like you went the hole hog with the rest of it. Looks like a lot of work. Any noticed performance loss.
Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to order the Brown Bread stuff along with V or Lcomp and give it a try. I must say they have very helpful and patient with my emails.
Doesn't seem like this is the path many other have taken so I hope I'm not making a $200 mistake.
With respect to damping, can't you get away with applying some material to the middle sections of flat panels rather than the entire area? I think you can get near/same results with less material and less weight. Correct me if I am wrong.
Ninegrand, have you done the install yet? What are your thoughts?
I did the doors with Cascade when I had the Components installed.
I'd like to cut down on some of the road noise and also to increase the benefits of the sub by making the trunk more rattle/noise proof so all the sound comes into the cabin through the fresh air vents.
Has anyone found a way to insulate the top of the trunk that isn't ugly and silver? Does the whole area need to be covered or would it help to put material on the shallow areas?
Not sure that the top of the trunk is a major source of sound/resonance.
Focus on the top of the gas tank, "wall" between trunk and cabin, and the bottom of the convertible top tray. The floors of the cabin can use some help also.
