Default Stock Tires on Snow??

hi all, I am a newbie here. Unfortunately I might have to pick up my 02' SSM S in the snow. I was just wondering if the tires are really that bad in the snow? Would it be wise to try to drive to work with them since spring is nearing and I really don't want to take public transit. As you can tell, I was a former Lude owner. Thanks all.

they are really that bad on snow and extremely danger., unless you are extremely careful driving with OEM S02 on snow. dont recommanded, I suggest you get a set of high performance winter tire then you can enjoy driving your s2000 on snow (still need to be careful)instead of extremely careful driving it.

Don't even think of it. My street is not well-ploed and the other day, when I knew the main roads were clear but mine weren't, I had trouble getting the car to move (cold idle too high for the traction of high-performance tires) as well as nearly not making it up a very slight incline.

It's not impossible but if you must go faster, safely, than 5MPH, use a different tire.

As if the other posts are not clear, I would call them terrifying. I drove to Ottawa one week and got hit by snow 1/2" and then warmed up to 40 deg f. The car will not turn or do ANYTHING you would expect. This was not the first time I spun out, but I did it twice at 25-30 mph and it was as if you have no control...at all..none.
Ask Gregg Stevens...........

Stock tires in snow is not a good idea. Take a look at this thread I just posted on Friday.

*lol* gawd, I hate those tires! they talk too much and they 'chunk' off. but for snow tires, they might just work.

As a fellow Calgarian, my answer is ......... NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Congrats on the car btw.
This is not the way you want to christen this car. You might luck out on the day you pick the car up and get it home on bare roads but you shouldn't expect to get away scot free for the rest of winter. I have a separate set of wheels with dedicated snow tires on them. All season radials will NOT work (not this RWD car anyway) for all conditions we see in Calgary. If you have to go up any hills to or from work, forget it. I got caught the major snowfall of the winter at work without my snows. I thought I could sneak by till I got home. What normally takes 15 minutes took me 1.75 hours to get home. Even the slightest incline and I was spinning my wheels just to go a few kph. I didn't dare stop and timed each light so I could drive right through. It was the most nerve racking driving experience of my life. I would suggest that on the day you pick it up, get a flat bed tow truck to take it home for you. Did you negotiate some extra goodies as part of the deal (hardtop, wheels, etc)? You are welcome to PM me if you have any other questions.
This car is my daily driver all year round and is my second winter. Do I have stories or what! So far, real good. It is actually more fun for me in winter than in summer.

thanks guys, and thanks xviper. For sure I wouldn't pick it up if the roads aren't dry. I guess i've been spoiled from a friendly fwd car even with the crappy RE92, I could get around in any snow condition. Yeah the flat bed truck sounds good since I am a new manual driver too, don't laugh I think I can take public transit till spring. Hopefully the S2k is worth it. Thanks again guys.
